Tucked beside the edge of the mangroves on Conchalito Island’s shell beach, our comfortable camping accommodations include spacious double-occupancy nylon tents, orthopedic foam mattresses, bed linens including heavy wool blankets, and pillows. A raised composting toilet with full wooden seat is set up at the far end of the beach, hidden within a mangrove thicket for privacy. Two wash basins are set up with “running” water produced by a foot-operated pump, and a shower tent with bucket shower is available for our use. Outstanding home-cooked meals are taken at a communal picnic table beneath a large tarp on the beach, with the sun’s rays for warmth in the morning, and starlight on the water at night.
