Purpose-built for immersive travel in remote polar regions, the newly retrofitted SOLA is a 144-foot expedition ship that blends comfort and capability. Eight en suite cabins accommodate up to 12 guests in well-appointed private quarters configured with either a queen bed or twin singles. Each cabin includes a writing desk, built-in closet and drawer space, and individual heating controls to ensure comfort in all conditions. The atmosphere throughout the vessel is warm and contemporary, reflecting understated Scandinavian elegance at sea.
The main saloon is the heart of onboard social life, with wraparound seating, large windows and an open-plan layout that connects to the galley and dining area. Meals are served in a bright communal space where guests gather to enjoy creatively prepared dishes. A fully equipped galley and an Aussie-style deck barbecue support a range of culinary experiences, A second lounge in the bridge saloon offers panoramic views and a quiet retreat for reading, conversation or observing navigation alongside the crew. Between excursions, guests can enjoy open decks designed for wildlife viewing and photography. The layout balances shared gathering spaces with room for privacy and personal reflection.
Beneath its refined features, SOLA remains a serious expedition vessel. Originally constructed in the Netherlands in 1989 as a North Sea beam trawler, she has been fully transformed for high-latitude exploration. Her Ice Class 6 steel hull and 3,000-horsepower Stork-Wartsila engine provide the strength and stability required to navigate polar seas. State-of-the-art radar, GPS, hydrographic equipment and satellite communications ensure reliable performance in remote areas.
