Orient Occident Hotel
Location
Istanbul, Turkey
Set among the trading streets of Istanbul's historic Sirkeci district, this Autograph Collection hotel occupies a late-19th-century building a short walk from the Spice Bazaar, Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. Inside, deep green paneled walls, decorative plasterwork, dark wood and brass detailing create a striking contrast to the bustle of the surrounding neighborhood. Leather banquettes, richly veined stone tables, illuminated bookcases and large-scale botanical murals bring character to the public spaces, while original architectural details connect the hotel to the district's mercantile past.
Spacious guest rooms continue the palette of forest green, walnut, brass and warm leather. Decorative wall moldings and chandeliers reference the building's history, while upholstered headboards, writing desks, coffee stations and marble-clad bathrooms add contemporary comfort. Rooms have a king-sized bed, sitting area, Wi-Fi, flat-screen TV, natural bath amenities and dedicated workspace.
The rooftop Mezzepotamia Restaurant & Bar is the hotel's signature gathering place. Tables overlook the rooftops, domes and ferry traffic of the historic peninsula with views stretching toward the Bosphorus. The menu focuses on Mediterranean dishes and traditional mezze. On the ground floor, Stephans Coffee serves Turkish pastries, tarts, mousses, cheesecakes and coffee throughout the day. Additional amenities include a marble-clad spa, traditional hammam, fitness center and lobby bar. Sustainability efforts include the use of natural toiletries and textiles alongside resource-conscious operational practices.
