Nat Hab's Serengeti East Camp
Location
East Central Serengeti, Tanzania
This solar-powered tented camp places travelers in the midst of the Serengeti’s Great Migration, offering a quiet, close-to-nature stay in one of the world’s most remarkable ecosystems. With just eight canvas tents, the camp remains small, secluded and well integrated into its surroundings. Solar energy powers daily operations, supported by a low-noise generator when needed.
Tents are simply furnished but comfortable, with twin beds that can be joined to form a king, colorful Tanzanian-made blankets and private shaded seating areas. Each includes an en suite bathroom with a flush toilet, safari-style bucket shower and hot water.
Shared lounge and dining tents open onto expansive views of the plains, and wildlife is often visible from camp. After dark, lanterns provide soft, ambient light that enhances the quiet and the sense of place. Meals feature local ingredients and traditional dishes, such as mtori, a plantain-based soup, along with vegetables and meats sourced from Tanzanian farms. A small bar offers classic safari drinks.
A close-knit Tanzanian team brings deep local knowledge and warm hospitality, creating a welcoming, well-informed atmosphere. Many have worked in this region for years and offer insight into wildlife behavior, seasonal changes and conservation efforts.
Set near the Namiri Plains—once closed for two decades to protect cheetah habitat—the camp sits among granite kopjes favored by predators. Big cats often use these rocky outcrops for shade and hunting, making sightings frequent. Researchers active in the area add to the sense of discovery. Despite its remote setting, the camp maintains a light footprint with solar power, battery storage and portable sewage systems.
