Hustai Mobile Ger Camp
Location
Hustai National Park, Mongolia
Designed in the spirit of Mongolia’s nomadic heritage, this private mobile ger camp is the only tourist accommodation in the buffer zone of Hustai National Park. It offers our groups exclusive access to the park's core zone, typically limited only to researchers, with opportunities to see the wild takhi horses for which the park is famous. The camp consists of hand-crafted mobile gers that can be dismantled and moved, minimizing environmental impact and reducing disturbance to wildlife. The result is a tranquil retreat that adapts to both nature and necessity.
At the heart of camp is a spacious dining ger with bright textiles, locally crafted furnishings and the warmth of a central stove. Just outside, a communal seating area opens to the steppe, where guests can sip morning coffee or evening sundowners beneath an endless sky while scanning the surroundings for wildlife.
Guest gers feature colorful felt interiors and locally crafted furnishings. Each is outfitted with twin or queen beds dressed with sheets, a light comforter and Mongolian yak-wool blankets. In the corner, a thick curtain conceals a portable toilet for overnight use. Shared facilities include private composting toilet stalls and gravity-fed bucket showers, filled with hot water by staff. Meals blend Mongolian and Asian flavors with Western favorites. Dinners might include herbed roast chicken or stir-fried vegetables, while breakfasts bring yak-milk yogurt and fresh bread. Light buffets and snacks accompany happy hour.
Built for minimal impact, the camp employs composting toilets, water-saving showers and pack-in-pack-out practices. With no permanent structures, it protects Hustai’s fragile ecosystem while staying true to the rhythms of nomadic life.
