Landhotel
Set among rolling hills with clear sightlines to Hekla and Eyjafjallajokull, this low-slung modern hotel uses walls of glass to pull the landscape indoors. Interiors lean into wood, concrete, and stone, softened by clean-lined lounge seating that feels restrained but comfortable. The overall effect is quiet, light-filled, and closely tied to its surroundings. Wi-Fi is available throughout.
Rooms are generous in size, with twin beds that convert to a king, a sitting area, and a desk positioned by wide windows. The look is distinctly Icelandic modern: mid-century pieces, pale wood, and earthy tones. Each room is equipped with USB outlets, reading lights, a clothing rack, luggage stand, and blackout curtains. Bathrooms include rain and hand-held showers, hair dryers, and premium bath products.
Breakfast centers on skyr, fresh baked pastries, and a range of savory options. At Tindur, the restaurant menu moves between vegetarian, fish, and meat dishes such as lemon sole, lamb filet, and duck gyoza. Common spaces are pared back and calm, and low exterior lighting keeps the night sky unobstructed for aurora viewing when conditions align.
The building is constructed from CLT timber and clad in aluminum for insulation, powered entirely by geothermal energy. Plastic use is limited, with paper-based takeaway items and a rigorous recycling program supported by motion-sensor, energy-efficient lighting. With limited exterior lighting, the Landhotel offers uninterrupted views of the night sky and is one of the best places to view the aurora borealis when weather conditions permit.
