Kwessi Dunes is an exclusive retreat located deep inside the nearly half-million-acre private NamibRand Reserve, where guests will find an incomparably remote and wild experience among the craggy mountains, rolling plains and iconic red dunes of the Namib Desert. The brand-new camp has 12 solar-powered, air-conditioned chalets with striped canvas walls, thatched roofs, vintage four-poster beds, and both indoor and outdoor showers. Each bedroom has a separate ‘star gazer’ room, completely open to the sky, to take advantage of some of the clearest night skies on Earth in Africa’s first International Dark Sky Reserve. Savor morning coffee on your private veranda, or next to the fireplace in the central lounge beneath a soaring thatched roof. Wi-Fi and battery charging ports are readily available. At all times, the breathtaking Namib Desert views reinforce the remoteness of the camp—an experience on private land that is accessible only by 4x4, with access to nearby Sossusvlei, the country's largest conservation area. There are many ways to explore the surrounding landscape, including quad biking, scenic 4x4 drives, guided walks, hot air ballooning, helicopter flights and horseback riding (some activities cost extra). Wildlife often on view in the area includes abundant antelope, gemsbok, bat-eared fox and Burchell’s zebra, while black-backed jackal, aardwolf and African wild cats are sometimes seen as well.
