Kuro Tarangire
Location
Tarangire National Park, Tanzania
Tucked beneath acacia and kigelia trees, this award-winning safari camp sits deep in Tarangire National Park, renowned for its large elephant herds. Built with a light footprint and natural materials, it keeps the focus on the surrounding wilderness. A new treehouse overlooking a dry riverbed offers a quiet, elevated spot for wildlife viewing. At the center of camp, the open-sided mess area draws on Maasai design, with cowhide ottomans, sheepskin rugs and handmade details that add warmth and texture. A timber and thatch roof lets air and light move freely, while shaded corners offer space to rest between game drives. Evenings bring dinners under the stars, lit by lanterns and accompanied by the sounds of the wild.
Canvas guest tents are positioned along the river line for seclusion and views, each with a private verandah that opens to the surrounding bush. Large mesh windows allow for airflow. Interiors are light and natural, with sisal, canvas and thatch used throughout. King-sized beds dressed in crisp linens and surrounded by mosquito netting. Each tent has an en suite bathroom and an outdoor bucket shower for a classic safari touch.
Meals are served in the open-air dining area or under the stars. Menus highlight fresh, locally inspired dishes—spiced lentil stew with flatbread or grilled tilapia with mango salsa—paired with regional wines and warm, attentive service.
Built using natural materials like timber, thatch and canvas, Kuro embraces sustainability. Bucket showers help conserve water, and all bath products are biodegradable. The camp sources ingredients locally and employs Tanzanian artisans and staff, supporting both the community and conservation.
