Hotel Nafarrola

Location
Bermeo, Spain

Surrounded by oak forest in the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve, this restored 17th-century farmhouse sits amid rolling hills, coastal cliffs and tidal wetlands that are home to deer, wild boar, foxes and more than 250 bird species. In this quiet retreat, original stone walls and exposed wooden beams contrast with whitewashed surfaces and minimalist Scandinavian-style furnishings.

Spacious, bright guest rooms feature original stonework and exposed beams and windows overlooking the reserve. They have double beds, understated wooden furnishings, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, desks and coffeemakers. En suite bathrooms offer deep jetted tubs and walk-in showers.

The Michelin-listed restaurant showcases Basque seafood and produce, including sea urchin crème brûlée, squid with piperrada and hake with citrus and clam pilpil. Rough stone walls, linen-draped tables and a wood-fired oven create an intimate dining setting, and the wine cellar holds more than 300 selections. Soak up the sun on the terraces, explore the countryside by bicycle, hike the Oma Forest, watch migratory birds in the reserve’s wetlands or tour the pottery studio where the hotel’s bespoke dinnerware is crafted.
