Explora Valle Sagrado
Location
Sacred Valley of the Incas, Urubamba, Peru
Set at 9,000 feet amid Andean peaks and terraced cornfields, this contemporary retreat features long, low buildings of stone, wood and glass, topped by broad louvered roofs and connected by elevated walkways. Soaring, cathedral-like ceilings are clad in blond wood and skylights and floor-to-ceiling windows fill common areas with light. Leather chairs, fireside seating and broad verandas look out toward the peaks and cornfield terraces.
Guest rooms are spacious and contemporary, with one king or two twin beds, wood-paneled ceilings, wood floors and neutral textiles. Sitting areas face large windows with mountain views, while tiled en suite bathrooms have double sinks and jetted tubs.
Menus showcase Andean ingredients, including Peruvian grains, tubers and herbs. Breads incorporate purple corn and maca, while edible flowers grown in the hotel’s organic garden garnish many dishes. A restored 17th-century colonial manor houses the bathhouse, where original frescoes complement massage rooms, a sauna and steam bath. Outside, gardens surround two hot tubs and a heated swimming pool.
The resort partners with ECOAN and local communities on high-Andean reforestation, supporting the planting of approximately 3,000 native queñua seedlings to reduce soil erosion and help maintain water flow. A youth environmental education program combines classroom research with fieldwork.
