Calcot & Spa
Location
Tetbury, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom
Set within 220 acres of rewilded Cotswolds countryside, Calcot & Spa is elegant yet unpretentious country retreat centered around a 16th‑century manor house with origins tracing back to the 14th century. Built by Henry of Kingswood as part of a medieval tithe barn complex, the estate remained under church ownership until the Dissolution of the Monasteries (1536–1541), when it was gifted by Henry VIII to a favored courtier. Privately owned ever since, the property has grown to include restored outbuildings and landscaped grounds that blend centuries of heritage with contemporary comfort.
Throughout the manor and barns, honey‑hued stone walls, original beams and soft lighting create a warm grounded atmosphere. The Hive, a light‑filled lounge, offers quiet corners for morning tea and transitions into a cozy bar after dusk. Beyond the buildings, winding paths lead through wildflower meadows to the spa courtyard, where a fireside outdoor hot tub and garden seating invite unhurried relaxation.
Each of Calcot’s guest rooms is individually designed pairing calm neutral tones with tactile textures—plush king‑size beds with upholstered headboards, wool throws and linen drapes. Bathrooms feature deep porcelain soaking tubs, walk‑in tiled showers, fluffy robes and slippers, and aromatherapy toiletries. Additional amenities include Sky TV, DAB radio with audiobooks, Wi‑Fi, a Nespresso machine, safe and a pantry stocked with fresh fruit and homemade shortbread.
The Brasserie showcases seasonal menus crafted by chefs with Michelin-star experience—dishes like roasted heritage carrots with whipped ricotta and hazelnut dukkah reflect the kitchen’s creative flair. The wine list and easygoing elegance of the space make it a favorite among guests and locals.
Over 25 years, Calcot has rewilded its land through organic farming, wildflower restoration and planting 22,000 native trees and hedgerows. Bee orchids, spotted orchids and endangered bird species now thrive here. On‑site hives produce wildflower honey, and a 2022 partnership with EarthCheck formalized Calcot’s commitment to sustainable travel.
