Location
South Luangwa National Park, Zambia
Set beneath towering ebony trees on a quiet bend of the Luangwa River, this five-room camp looks directly onto one of the park’s busiest wildlife corridors. The open-sided main lodge—with its lounge, bar, dining area and small river-facing pool—stays shaded through much of the day, while the sounds of the river carry through camp: hippos grunting after dark, baboons calling from the trees and elephants splashing across the channel below. The atmosphere is relaxed and unhurried, with views over the water from nearly every corner of camp.
Guest suites are simple in structure and carefully detailed, with grass walls, soft neutral fabrics and flowing curtains. Two twins or a king have feather tops and face outward toward the landscape, and the open-air bathrooms include soaking tubs positioned for river views. Rooms also include ceiling fans, charging stations, safes and Wi-Fi.
Meals are served in different locations throughout camp depending on the time of day and weather, from breakfasts beneath the trees to dinners lit by lanterns and firelight. The kitchen favors fresh, straightforward cooking suited to the climate and setting—grilled fish, seasonal vegetables, chilled soups, house-baked breads and fruit-driven desserts finished with local honey.
The camp operates primarily on solar power and maintains a deliberately small footprint within the national park. Its limited number of rooms, seasonal operation and low-impact design help preserve the surrounding ebony grove and river habitat while minimizing noise and energy use within this sensitive stretch of South Luangwa.
