Yellowstone Wolf & Wildlife Photo Safari

Capture Stunning Scenery and Wildlife Images in the Silent Grandeur of Winter
8 Days From $7295
Yellowstone's best photography opportunities often happen during its quietest season, when wildlife is more plentiful than people. Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks contain the largest concentration of free-roaming wildlife in the Lower 48—a nature photographer’s grail—and winter is the best season to capture striking images of animals against the frozen white backdrop. Shaggy bison forage for food, their coats rimmed in frost, nostrils blowing steam clouds in the frigid air. Elk congregate in vast herds on the floor of Jackson Hole. In the remote reaches of Yellowstone's Lamar Valley, search for wolves as these stealthy predators move across the powdery expanse at a distance. This all-encompassing nature adventure promises exquisite rewards for photographers!

Yellowstone's Ultimate Wolf & Wildlife Photography Opportunity

In Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, tremendous natural forces come together to create a spectacular backdrop for wildlife and nature photography, especially as winter's light plays upon a frosty white canvas. While most other outfitters offer shorter day trips through a limited section of the parks, our comprehensive winter journey includes not only Yellowstone and Grand Teton, but the National Elk Refuge in Jackson Hole and other photogenic locations. Learn more about what sets our photo expedition apart:

  1. Explore Areas of the National Parks That Most Visitors Miss
Our winter photography expedition was developed specifically for those who want to capture images of wildlife and iconic landscapes. Our long history in Yellowstone means you’ll benefit from our decades of experience in knowing where the best wildlife photography opportunities lie. We explore areas of the parks that independent travelers and guests aboard standard bus tours never see.
  2. Small Groups Ensure Intimate Wildlife Encounters
Our group of approximately 12 guests is further divided into two smaller groups in two vehicles, each with an Expedition Leader, for the quietest experience of nature with less impact. Traveling with fewer people also allows us to move quickly to areas where wolves have most recently been spotted, and to observe them without disturbing them.
  3. Exclusive Nat Hab Safari Trucks—Special Pop-Top Roofs Enhance Viewing!
As on an African safari, the quality of your adventure vehicle is key to exploring America's national parks. A far cry from the typical buses other companies use, Nat Hab has crafted new Mercedes Sprinters into specialty “North American Safari Trucks.” Three double-wide pop-top roof hatches plus large side windows allow for 360-degree views of the landscape and wildlife. Every guest has a window seat and plenty of room for camera equipment and other gear. These exclusive vehicles make a big difference in your overall experience!
  4. Better Snowcoaches Built for Wildlife Viewing
In order to access areas of Yellowstone that are off-limits to regular vehicles in winter, we charter special over-the-snow vehicles. These private snowcoaches, like our North American Safari Trucks, are a cut above rest: the historic Bombardiers we hire are the most reliable and fuel-efficient snowcoaches available in the park—and they have roof hatches that facilitate wildlife photography from inside the vehicle. Other snowcoaches require you to step outside to get photos unimpeded by glass windows.
  5. Our Guides are Professional Naturalists, Photographers and Educators
You simply won't find more impressive guides for your Yellowstone photography adventure. Our Expedition Leaders are naturalists and accomplished photographers, with in-depth knowledge of the places we visit and their resident wildlife—as well as expertise in helping you get the best photos. Our guides are in constant communication with local wolf researchers, providing our small group the most up-to-date, inside knowledge of wolf locations and activities. Our Yellowstone Photo Expedition Leaders have been guiding in this region for an average of eight years, and they receive additional training and resources from WWF’s top scientists. We can proudly state that they are the guides called upon to train and teach other local guides. See Expedition Leader bios with traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
  6. A Renowned Yellowstone Wildlife Photographer Joins Us in the Field
Drawing on our years of experience in the region, we've arranged personal time with one of the country's premier wolf photographers. We'll visit the home and gallery of famed local naturalist/photographer Dan Hartman, who also joins us for an outing in the Lamar Valley where we’ll have our best chance to see wolves in their natural environment. Renowned for his outstanding images of wolves and other Yellowstone wildlife, Dan is at our side to share tips for capturing the best shots of these often-elusive animals.
