An Expertly Guided Photography Adventure at the Best Time of Year for Wildlife Images
When autumn comes to the northwest corner of Wyoming, so too does the most entrancing time of year for photographers. The air is crisp and clear, brilliant gold aspen add a fiery accent, and the bugle calls of mating elk resound across the broad expanse of Jackson Hole. Here amid the classic landscapes of Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, both wildlife and scenery are peerless. Our photo tour features an exclusive field visit with a renowned local photographer who offers insight and guidance for capturing the best shots of mammals, birds of prey, steaming geysers and more. Our survey of the Yellowstone region also includes sunrise and sunset opportunities to track the famous gray wolves of the Lamar Valley.

You'll Get Better Photos When You Travel With Us!
The wildlife and scenery of the Yellowstone region are legendary. From shaggy bison to bears and elusive wolves, America’s first national park offers charismatic subjects for wildlife photographers. And don't forget what may be the most dramatic mountains in the world: the Grand Tetons. But just getting to Yellowstone is no guarantee you’ll get great photos. The best shots depend a great deal on traveling unobtrusively and knowing how to find wildlife. That’s where our approach and expertise come in.
Our Photo-Focused Itinerary Unveils More Wildlife Our photography expedition has been meticulously crafted to reveal “secret” corners of Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks that most visitors miss. Here, where tourists are fewer, animals are more plentiful. Our depth of experience in Yellowstone and the Tetons allows you to discover lesser-known areas where wildlife viewing—and great photos—are practically assured. Our special photo tour itinerary is one day longer than our regular Classic Yellowstone trip, allowing us to slow down and take advantage of photo opportunities as they arise, without missing a thing. And we make the most of summer's showy bloom with special wildflower photo departures, too!
Small Groups Facilitate Intimate Nature Encounters We take a maximum of just 6 guests per private safari vehicle, and a maximum of 12 guests total, which is substantially fewer than other tour companies or locally run day toursaccommodate. Traveling in these smaller vehicles designed for wildlife viewing, we gain better access to remote areas that bus tours and independent visitors just don’t get to. Alongside our two NHA Photo Expedition Leaders, we have flexibility to move quickly to areas where wildlife has most recently been spotted. And, a small group ensures that each member receives personalized attention and photography advice from our Expedition Leaders, to help you capture the best possible images.
The World's Finest Naturalist-Photographer Guides Our guests enjoy the personalized service of our highly trained naturalist Expedition Leaders—who also happen to be accomplished nature photographers! Your Expedition Leader is by your side with tips and pointers on how to get the best possible photographs, while also sharing expert interpretation about the region’s wildlife and natural history. Our guides are also in constant communication with local wolf researchers, giving our groups the most up-to-date, inside knowledge of wolf locations and activity. NHA’s Yellowstone Photo Expedition Leaders average 15 years' guiding experience, with additional resources at their disposal from WWF’s top scientists. See Photo Expedition Leader bios and traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
Spend a Day in the Field with an Acclaimed Local Photographer We have an exclusive opportunity to spend a day in the field with Dan Hartman, one of Yellowstone's most famous wildlife photographers whose work has been featured in National Geographic. His wolf images are particularly renowned, and he is an important Yellowstone naturalist in his own right. We’ll also visit with Dan at his home and gallery.
Exclusive Nat Hab Safari Trucks—Special Pop-Top Roofs Enhance Viewing! As on an African safari, the quality of your adventure vehicle is key to exploring America's national parks. A far cry from the typical buses other companies use, Nat Hab has crafted new Mercedes Sprinters into specialty“North American Safari Trucks.” Three double-wide pop-top roof hatches plus large side windows allow for 360-degree views of the landscape and wildlife. Every guest has a window seat and plenty of room for camera equipment and other gear. These exclusive vehicles make a big difference in your overall experience!
Fall Departures for the Most Beautiful Photo Backdrops Most people visit Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons in mid-summer, when crowds are at their peak. Aside from our early summer wildflower photo expeditions, our photo safaris happen in September, when people are few and landscape is a glorious tapestry of golden aspen, blue skies and perhaps a dusting of early snow on the peaks. You won’t find a more stunning backdrop against which to capture magnificent wildlife photos!
