Photo Challenge: Backyard Photography

I think it’s safe to say that many of us are spending more time than usual in our backyards these days. That combined with the refreshing springtime air, new blooms, and backyard critters scurrying about have me thinking about all the things we can photograph, and showcase, right in our own backyards.

Over the years, I’ve posted about techniques for photographing fast-moving animals, techniques for night photography, macro photography and more. Thus, I feel it’s more appropriate than ever to turn you loose on our next photography challenge–Backyard Photography.

Per tradition, I prefer to give very little guidance on what Backyard Photography should consist of. However, I’m confident that with the tools here on this website, and your creative vision, we are going to get some exceptional entries.

As background, each challenge we will give you a theme or a technique to work on as a guideline. Perhaps the theme is “Challenge: shallow depth of field” or maybe “Challenge: using fast shutter speeds.” Then, it’s up to you to get out there and show us what you’ve got!

Each time we announce a challenge, you’ll have a week or two to submit your star photo example of the Challenge’s theme. Once a winner is selected, they will get a featured post on The Natural Photographer, along with commentary as to why this photo was selected. Our hope is that this will be a great learning process, using your great photos as examples of how to master various techniques.

We’ll accept entries until the end of the day Friday, May 1st at midnight, at which time we’ll begin reviewing to select the winner!

The submission period is now over. We’ll be announcing the winner soon!
