Rita GaldosAdventure Director
Rita was born and raised in Portugal, where an early love of travel, culture and history shaped her curiosity about the world. She later moved to Scotland to attend university, an experience that deepened her appreciation for heritage, storytelling and the diversity of landscapes and traditions across Europe.
Rita began her career as a scientist and virologist, contributing to research focused on improving human health. Over time, she realized her interests extended beyond the lab—toward connecting people with meaningful experiences and the natural world. This led her to transition into a new path with Earthwatch Institute, where she spent many years designing and managing international expeditions and programs that bring together scientists, travelers and communities in support of conservation and research.
Through her work, Rita has led and supported programs across the globe, combining her scientific background with a strong focus on people, place and purpose. She has extensive experience in international program management, expedition planning and cross-cultural collaboration.
Now based in Massachusetts, Rita lives with her husband and their three children. She continues to nurture her love of travel, history and culture, often sharing these passions with her family and finding inspiration in both local and global exploration.
