Born and raised in Costa Rica, Marco has small-group explorations through all regions of his country. His research focus is birds and plants, and he has often participated in bird studies conducted throughout Costa Rica. He earned an advanced diploma at the Costa Rica North American Culture Center and has completed courses in vulcanology at the Observatory of Vulcanology and Seismology. You will surely be taken in by his contagious enthusiasm and energy, which are fed by his passion for nature. Marco is always eager to share his knowledge and experience with travelers. Marco also enjoys a cold beer with his guests (and with Nat Hab's director, Ben) on occasion, and we at Natural Habitat refer to him as “El Comidiente” for his wonderful nature and outgoing personality.
Praise from Natural Habitat travelers
"Marco was amazing. He had a wonderful rapport with everyone on this trip and he seemed to know about every plant and animal in the country. Everyone learned so much and really enjoyed being with him. Marco had two special surprises for us, lunch at an organic farm and dinner with a Costa Rican family. Both of these surprises were amazing."
"Marco was the most excellent guide anyone could have. His vast knowledge and love of the country kept even the children engaged. He was fun, energetic and so full of facts. It was so much better than reading a book! We all loved him!"
“What could be said of Marco that you do not know. He was so helpful and did so many extra things for us. If the government of Costa Rica does not someday make him Seretary of the Department of Tourism it would be very suprising. He alone made a good trip an outstanding one."
“Marco (aka Tex) was the most knowledgable, helpful and enthusiastic guide we could possibly have asked for. He loves his job, sharing the nature of Costa Rica with others, and it shows! Even on days when the volcano was fogged in, the wildlife was hiding and the paths were muddy, Marco found a way to get us excited about what we were seeing. We were the lucky beneficiaries of his desire to be the best. We also found him to be lots of fun and very warm hearted."
“Tex was probably the best Nat Hab guide we have ever had. He was very personable and knowledgeable. He was there 110% for us. Nat Hab is lucky to have found him, you don't want to lose him. He has so much passion for his country and its people and it exudes from him."
