Sail-Fly Itinerary

Please Note: Flexibility is a hallmark of these expedition cruises, and the day-to-day itinerary may change as we adapt to weather and local conditions, taking advantage of rare wildlife sightings or allowing photographers to linger ashore when the light is especially good.

Itinerary

Day 1: Gather in Ushuaia before sailing to Antarctica

  • Arrive in a port town between the Martial Mountains and Beagle Channel

  • Join your expedition team and fellow travelers for a welcome dinner

Day 2: Explore Tierra del Fuego before boarding your expedition ship

  • Look for guanacos, foxes and Andean condors in Tierra del Fuego National Park

  • Cruise the Beagle Channel by private catamaran, watching for sea lions and imperial cormorants

  • Board your ice-strengthened expedition vessel and sail toward Antarctica

Days 3 to 4: Cross the legendary Drake Passage toward Antarctica

  • Sail across the 500-mile-wide passage first navigated by Sir Francis Drake in 1578

  • Watch for albatrosses, killer whales and dolphins as you near the Antarctic Peninsula

  • Attend talks on Antarctic biology and scan for wildlife from the observation lounge or Bridge

Days 5 to 8: Explore a world of ice beneath the austral summer sun

  • Kayak among towering icebergs and glaciers along the Antarctic coast

  • Walk near penguin colonies and look for Antarctic fur seals and southern elephant seals

  • Cruise by Zodiac among the ice, watching for whales close enough to hear their blows

Day 9: Make a final Antarctic landing before flying to Patagonia

  • Look for Weddell and elephant seals and Adelie, chinstrap and gentoo penguins

  • Disembark your expedition vessel and travel by Zodiac to King George Island

  • Board a two-hour flight to Puerto Natales in Chilean Patagonia

Day 10: Depart Puerto Natales after your Antarctic voyage

  • Connect with homeward flights from Chilean Patagonia
