Kenya Migration Photo Safari

Capture Iconic Images of Africa on an Exclusive Private Safari Designed to Enhance Your Photo Skills
9 Days From $11495 (+internal air)
Kenya has long been Africa’s most storied safari destination. Known for its legendary wildlife and evocative landscapes, Kenya offers the photographer countless opportunities to capture iconic images of Africa: Graceful giraffes browsing in acacia trees. Elephants traversing the savanna. Stealthy lions stalking gazelle. Proud Maasai bedecked in ceremonial beadwork. And, perhaps most notably, the Great Migration, a chance to photograph hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra thundering across the plains, with predators in pursuit. Concentrating on private reserves, we avoid the more heavily visited parks, guaranteeing an authentic safari experience reminiscent of Kenya in days gone by. Our small groups and intimate luxury camps ensure personal attention, exceptional comfort and a safari in which wildlife truly takes center stage.

Traveler Profile: An African Safari Experience
The Great Migration

On Our Kenya Migration Safari, You'll Get Better Images

An African photo safari is a high point on any nature photographer’s travel resume. And of all the safari options out there, an opportunity to photograph the Great Migration may be the pinnacle! Imagine close-up shots of thousands of wildebeest and zebra clattering over the plains, followed by a phalanx of predators—wildlife photographers won’t find a greater thrill. But choosing a migration safari isn’t easy, since many companies simply add the word “migration” to their trip name in hopes of conjuring images of prolific wildlife viewing. In reality, they visit crowded parks, use cramped vehicles, stay in big lodges rather than remote luxury camps, and rely on mediocre guides. The result is a sub-par experience that hinders the opportunity to get the iconic shots that wildlife photographers dream about. We want you to realize your wildest dreams—that’s why our safaris are different:

  1. Fewer Travelers = Better Photos
Our small groups—with a maximum of just eight guests—ensure a highly personalized safari experience. With just three to four guests per vehicle (sometimes fewer), every traveler is ensured unobstructed views and plenty of space for your equipment. Enjoy room to spread out and angle for perfect shots as we encounter scene after scene of wildlife drama.
  2. Personalized Photography Coaching From an Expert Professional
Your Natural Habitat Expedition Leader is intimately familiar with the Kenyan bush. Years of guiding have given your leader an intimate knowledge of animal behavior. Couple this with superb photography skills, which your guide is passionate about sharing with guests, and you’ve got a photo safari that’s second to none.
  3. Experience Brings Exclusivity
Our Expedition Leaders make all the difference in the popular Maasai Mara, where less-experienced guides rely upon radio calls to find wildlife, often resulting in  20 vehicles surrounding a single lion. By contrast, our Expedition Leaders know the area and wildlife intimately and are able to purposefully avoid other vehicles as we find our own sightings. This means more private and authentic encounters with wildlife—and better photos!
  4. Private Reserves &  Private Mobile Camps Offer Superior Wildlife Viewing
By avoiding heavily visited national parks in favor of private conservancies with strict guest limits, we maximize wildlife encounters,  increase our proximity to the migration and ensure seclusion. Private reserves also permit bush walks and night drives in search of nocturnal species—privileges not allowed on public lands. Our intimate mobile bush camps offer a compelling contrast to large, impersonal safari lodges. Isolated within the wilderness yet offering exceptional comfort, our luxury mobile camps ensure personalized attention.
  5. Private Mobile Camp in the Maasai Mara
In the famed Maasai Mara National Reserve, we stay in our own private mobile camp with access to an exclusive campsite near the Mara River wildebeest crossing during the migration. Our luxury tented camp is situated in a remote and secluded spot where wildlife is abundant and tourists less so.
  6. The Most In-Depth Migration Itinerary
Some “migration” safaris spend only a day or two among the vast herds. We spend eight full days at the height of the migration, maximizing every chance to photograph the animals in a variety of settings and behaviors. This immersive experience also affords plenty of time to focus on other wildlife, too—as well as cultural visits with local Maasai communities.
  7. Fly To and From the Bush
Many safari companies transport you to and from the Maasai Mara from Nairobi by vehicle, meaning long, dusty drives over rough roads. We fly both ways, maximizing time for what you have come to Kenya for: wildlife photography on safari!
  8. Carry Up to 70 Pounds of Luggage
We have arranged for extra space on board our charter flights, which means our photo safari guests have a 70-pound luggage limit, far more than almost every other safari company out there. And the gear flies with us rather than traveling overland, which can cause damage to equipment due to difficult road conditions.
  9. The World's Finest Naturalist Guides
Natural Habitat Adventures is known worldwide for employing the finest naturalist guides on the planet. In Kenya, rather than using less qualified local camp guides at each stop, or an inexperienced safari guide as a trip escort, our NHA safari Expedition Leaders are the most highly trained guides in Africa. On our photo safaris, your guide is also an expert photographer, constantly by your side to help you get the best possible pictures. With our groups from beginning to end, each of our Expedition Leaders average more than 15 years' guiding experience , and their training is further enhanced by WWF’s premiere scientists. Our philosophy on this is simple: an African safari is only as good as the guide, so we must provide the very best! Check out our Photo Expedition Leader bios and traveler comments about them.
