Mt. Field Retreat
Location
National Park, Tasmania
Built in 2023, Mt. Field Retreat is a thoughtfully designed ecolodge tucked along the edge of Mt. Field National Park—Tasmania’s oldest and one of its most ecologically rich reserves. Surrounded by towering tree ferns and eucalyptus, this off-grid retreat is located just steps from the park. This access makes it an ideal base for nighttime nature walks to discover glow worms and observe nocturnal wildlife like pademelons and possums.
The property's minimalist, self-contained pods are simple and cozy, with timber accents, soft lighting and a neutral color palette. Each pod has a king bed that can be converted into two twins, sofa bed, kitchenette and a modern ensuite bathroom. Outside, a private deck looks out onto the surrounding landscape. Wi-Fi is available throughout, and there's plenty of outdoor seating, ideal for stargazing or morning birdwatching.
The retreat runs entirely off solar power with battery storage, collects rainwater for all its needs and utilizes environmentally sensitive waste systems. Even the landscaping is regenerative, with endemic plantings that support the surrounding ecosystem—including a notable 14-foot tree fern named Geoffrey.
