The Winchester Hotel
Location
Cape Town, South Africa
Set directly across from Cape Town’s Sea Point Promenade, The Winchester Hotel occupies a whitewashed 1920s landmark wrapped around a large open-air courtyard lined with black-and-white colonnades, wrought-iron balconies and climbing bougainvillea. The Atlantic Ocean sits just beyond the promenade, while Lion’s Head rises behind the neighborhood’s palm-lined streets. From here, Camps Bay, the Table Mountain cableway, the V&A Waterfront and central Cape Town are all within easy reach.
Inside, historic architecture gives way to monochrome interiors accented with geometric patterns, South African artwork and locally made Ardmore textiles. Guest rooms are individually designed, with king beds, lounge seating, large windows, air conditioning, minibars, safes, Nespresso machines and marble bathrooms with rainfall showers and premium bath amenities.
Much of the hotel’s atmosphere centers on its shared spaces. Breakfast is served beneath hanging vines in the courtyard, while the ocean-facing terrace fills at sunset for cocktails overlooking the Atlantic. At Shoreditch Restaurant, much of the menu is prepared over open flames, including dry-aged steaks and locally caught seafood. Adjacent Harvey’s Bar draws both guests and locals for cocktails late into the evening. Additional amenities include a swimming pool, fitness center and Sanctuary Spa offering massages, facials and wellness treatments.
