Easy / Moderate
The nature walks on this extension are generally easy and tend to move at a slow pace in order to better spot wildlife. Bear in mind that it is hot and humid in the Amazon year-round, and during rainy season walking through mud may be necessary while on the trails. Guests need to be able to climb in and out of rocking canoes and may need to be able to walk on uneven and slippery terrain depending on the activity. Those who wish to climb the 12-story canopy tower also need to be able to climb 230 steps to reach the top.
Important Information About This Trip
This extension offers an immersion in the tropical jungle and rainforest of Ecuador’s Amazon Basin, replete with some of the most diverse plant and animal life on earth. The standard four-day extension departs on Friday, while the standard five-day extension departs on Monday. Departures on other days of the week (except Sunday, no arrivals or departures available) are possible though there may be a surcharge. Discounts are available for children under the age of 12. Please call our office for details: 1-800-543-8917.
Since the areas we travel to on this extension are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require medical evacuation insurance for this program. If you decline the medical evacuation insurance coverage offered by Natural Habitat, we require that you send us documentation of the independent coverage you have selected. We recommend that your chosen independent insurance plan includes at least $250,000 in medical evacuation coverage. Please note that we will add the cost of Natural Habitat’s medical evacuation policy to your tour invoice until you provide our office with proof of coverage including your insurance company's name, phone number and your individual policy number. Thank you for understanding that our policy exists exclusively in the interest of our guests' safety.
To protect your investment and to provide peace of mind while you travel, we also strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. Plans may cover everything from medical treatment to trip cancellations and delays, to lost luggage. Please contact our office if you would like more information about the medical evacuation or comprehensive travel insurance policies we offer through Travelex by calling 800-543-8917.
Getting There & Getting Home
This adventure begins and ends in Quito, Ecuador. Our flight to Coca departs early in the morning on the first day, so an overnight in the city or near the Quito airport one night prior is always necessary. Our return flight from Coca generally lands in Quito around noon. You are free to depart anytime after 3 pm. Depending on your preferred airline's schedule, it may be necessary to spend an additional night near the Quito airport after your extension. We can best serve you if our Natural Habitat Adventures Travel Desk makes your reservations, as we are intimately familiar with the special requirements of this program and can arrange the most efficient travel. Please call us at 1-800-543-8917. Note that while we offer you the best possible rates available to us on airfare and additional nights' accommodations, you may find special web rates or better fares online.
