Custom Departures: Customized private departures can be arranged for this destination. Please contact us for more information—we'd be happy to assist you.

Green Season Departures (May departures): In May, the verdant grasslands that are the product of the rains that fall from November through March offer a relatively safe environment for mothers to bear their young. During this time game viewing and photography are especially wonderful, as we can view Africa's baby creatures against the magnificent backdrop of the lush landscape.

Family Departures: We have scheduled family adventures especially designed for parents, children and grandparents to enjoy the wonders of the Botswana in a manner appropriate to families' multigenerational needs. For details, please see our Family Botswana Safari.

Other Departure Options: Some of the above departures can be booked in conjunction with The Great Namibia Wildlife Safari. Please call us for details: 1-800-543-8917.

Location of Adventure
Botswana, Southern Africa
Group Size Limit
Approximately 7 Travelers
A very important feature of our Secluded Botswana Safari is the limited group size of just seven travelers, since nature and wildlife encounters are greatly enhanced when fewer people are present. Secluded Botswana Photo Safaris are limited to eight travelers, who are then split between two vehicles with a maximum of four travelers per vehicle.
Our Specialized 4x4 Land Rovers and Land Cruisers
An important element of this safari is our use of specialized 4x4 vehicles that facilitate unmatched wildlife viewing opportunities. Typically, we use open 4x4 Land Rovers that have a superior suspension system and an open-top, open-sided, tiered seating arrangement to maximize wildlife viewing opportunities and comfort. On occasion, we will use 4x4 stretch Land Cruisers with a similar design. During the green season, it is common to have a shade net over the vehicle to provide sun protection and cover during the intermittent rains. This protective net comes off during the cooler summer months in Botswana to allow the sun to warm us on morning and afternoon drives.

Vehicles have 10 cushioned passenger seats—one in front next to the driver, followed by three rows of three seats each—though we limit our capacity to seven travelers per vehicle on wildlife drives during our Secluded Botswana Safari, again for maximum comfort, viewing and photo opportunities. Secluded Botswana Photo Safaris accommodate a maximum of four travelers per vehicle. Vehicles have a mini fridge stocked with cold drinks plus a small library with reference books and field guides. Each custom-built vehicle sports front bull bars and runner boards, as well as a full recovery kit, including spare tires and a high-lift jack. Vehicles are updated or replaced regularly and meticulously maintained to provide our guests with an outstanding safari experience.
Our Private Leaders
Internal scheduled light aircraft flights, accommodations, airport transfers on Day 1 and final day, all meals from dinner on Day 1 to breakfast on final day, non-alcoholic drinks at camps and in vehicles, house alcoholic beverages in camps, services of NHA Expedition Leader, Safari Coordinator, local guides and lodge staff, some gratuities, all permits, entrance fees and taxes.
Not Included
Travel to and from start and end point of trip, premium alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, passport and visa fees, optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, souvenirs, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes, optional travel insurance, and required medical evacuation insurance.
Physical Requirements
There is no strenuous activity during this safari, though a safari vehicle frequently offers a bumpy ride. Wildlife drives often involve long hours of sitting and sometimes bouncing around. While we don't consider this strenuous, it can be uncomfortable and may pose a physical demand on the body. All travelers must be able to climb into and out of the raised 4x4 safari trucks. They must also be able to walk to and from the vehicle to our camp accommodations, which sometimes involves walking over uneven ground or on boardwalks. Additionally, while any short walks are considered optional, you will get the most out of your safari experience if you can walk a mile or two over uneven ground without assistance. We recommend that all travelers have an adventurous spirit, as they will often enjoy the closest and most rewarding animal encounters.
Important Information About This Trip
This consummate safari includes prime accommodations in Botswana’s best and most remote wildlife locales. Each safari camp is small and intimate (usually accommodating just our small group), with electricity and private en suite bathrooms. After full days of exploration and thrilling wildlife encounters that our Expedition Leaders help facilitate, our comfortable and hospitable accommodations provide an additional highlight. On these safaris, itinerary changes may occur in order to take advantage of conditions unique to the season and/or to accommodate unexpected changes in water levels; therefore, itineraries may need to be rerouted or redesigned without notice.
Mandatory Insurance
Since the areas we travel to on this trip are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require medical evacuation insurance for our guests' safety. If you decline the medical evacuation insurance coverage offered by Natural Habitat, we request that you send us documentation of the independent coverage you have selected. We will add the cost of a medical evacuation policy to your tour invoice until you provide our office with proof of coverage including your insurance company's name, contact number and your individual policy number. Thank you for understanding that our policy exists exclusively in the interest of our guests' safety.
Getting There & Getting Home
You must arrive in Livingstone, Zambia by 1 pm on Day 1 and you may depart Maun, Botswana anytime after 1:30 pm on the final day.

We can best serve you if our Natural Habitat Adventures Travel Desk makes your reservations, as our staff is intimately familiar with the special requirements of this program and can arrange the most efficient travel. Please call us at 1-800-543-8917. Note that while we offer you the best possible rates available to us on airfare and additional nights' accommodations, you may find special web rates or better fares online.
