Madagascar Wildlife Adventure

A Private Air Journey Through the World's Most Unique Biodiversity Hotspot
13 Days
11
From $9995 (+internal air)
Madagascar is indeed a world apart. Its rain forests are home to diademed sifakas, indris, fossas and tenrecs, while baobabs and pachypodia punctuate its desert landscapes. Curious about those exotic-sounding names? For even the best-traveled nature lover, Madagascar offers a kaleidoscope of discoveries. It's no wonder WWF has chosen it as a priority place—more than 80% of the island nation's rare and intriguing plants and animals, including more than 100 different varieties of lemur, exist nowhere else. And there's no better way to experience this living time capsule that broke away from the super-continent some 100 million years ago than on this carefully designed itinerary with our naturalist-led small group. Discover an "eighth continent" you never knew existed as we enjoy close encounters with some of the planet’s most unusual species.

Our Madagascar Adventure Is a Standout in an Outstanding Land!

When it comes to unique destinations for nature adventures, it's tough to top Madagascar. At least 80% of the intriguing plants and animals on the world's fourth largest island exist nowhere else on Earth. To truly discover this "world apart" requires a very small group and exclusive transportation features that are missing on most organized tours. Take a look at what sets our Madagascar itinerary apart:

  1. Our Unique Itinerary Maximizes Your Time in Nature
Most people who visit Madagascar do so just once in their lives, so it’s important to get the most out of each day. Compare itineraries carefully: on other trips, you may lose several days traversing the country on long drives, or your travels may be confined to fewer regions. When you come to Madagascar with us, you’ll spend more time in fascinating wild places, rather than navigating between them over great distances. By including chartered flights, we avoid too many long, tiring days in buses, and we access a greater selection of rarely visited areas, reveling in wildlife encounters found nowhere else.
  2. A Very Small Group (10-11 Travelers Max) Ensures Authentic Wildlife Encounters
The best wildlife experiences are always more likely to occur in the presence of fewer people—and they're impossible with groups of 20 or more. We explore Madagascar with no more than 10 or 11 travelers—likely the smallest group you'll find—ensuring a quieter and more personal experience in nature.
  3. Chartered Flights are Key to Our Itinerary
When other companies include flights, they typically utilize the national carrier, Air Madagascar, an airline with one of the worst track records for delays and cancellations. In fact, in recent years altered schedules have become the norm. The unfortunate truth is that travelers booked on Air Madagascar can sometimes wait a full day or more in airports, or be re-routed in a manner requiring a 24-hour drive on very poor dirt roads. To avoid this exceedingly unpleasant experience, and to be certain we don’t waste our valuable days in Madagascar, we've opted to arrange our own private chartered flights. This is a big and costly commitment, but it ensures we get where we want to be in a convenient and timely manner, so you see more and don't lose out due to airline caprices.
  4. Unique Accommodations Close to Nature—Including Acclaimed Anjajavy Lodge
We emphasize secluded lodging with stays on private reserves and close to protected national parks. From bungalows tucked within lush rain forest to your own eco-villa on a nature reserve accessible only by private airstrip, we focus on intimate natural settings. Anjajavy Lodge is a special highlight: Madagascar's only Relais & Chateaux property (a 4-star establishment by European standards), its guests have access to more than 17,000 acres of private reserve containing some 1,800 floral species and a multitude of rare wildlife. At Andasibe-Mantadia National Park, our stay on a private estate near the park includes a visit to its small lemur preserve, where we get very close to Madagascar’s famous icons.
  5. Explore a Biodiversity Hotspot Before the Rest of the World Gets There
Nat Hab is one of few tour operators offering naturalist-guided trips to this distinctive destination. And our itinerary is as diverse and uncommon as Madagascar itself. We explore dense highland rain forest, wander through moss- and lichen-laden cloud forest, and plumb arid sandstone canyons. On the Indian Ocean coast, search for rare frogs and geckos on night walks, spot several varieties of endangered lemurs in forests, and scan coastlines for pods of dolphins and migrating whales. With Nat Hab and WWF working together to create this unique itinerary, you won’t find a more comprehensive nature-focused adventure.
  6. Travel in the Company of a Top Expedition Leader, Plus Expert Local Guides
Compare the quality of guides and guest-to-guide ratio: We provide a highly trained Expedition Leader whose first language is English and who is experienced in guiding in Madagascar, plus a seasoned local guide who knows the country like none other. Our Expedition Leader provides expert tour management and the integrated perspective of a professional naturalist, while our Malagasy guide adds in-depth local knowledge, helping to maximize the variety of wildlife you’ll see. We're also joined by regional park guides in several places, adding even more depth and expertise. Our Expedition Leaders have additional training and resources provided by WWF’s top scientists—an NHA exclusive! See Expedition Leader bios with traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
  7. Our Quality-Value Guarantee Ensures Your Outstanding Nature Adventure
With Natural Habitat Adventures, you receive our exclusive guarantee that clearly states that we will meet the high expectations we set forth in our promotional materials. To our knowledge, this is the most ambitious guarantee made by any adventure travel company. Read our important promise.
  8. Feel Good About Your Carbon-Neutral Journey
We care deeply about our planet, as we know you do. When you travel with us, the carbon emissions from your trip are 100% offset—including your round-trip flights from home. Natural Habitat Adventures has been the world’s first carbon-neutral travel company since 2007.
  9. Natural Habitat Adventures Is World Wildlife Fund’s Travel Partner
Because of our commitment to environmentally friendly travel, as well as the exceptional quality of our small-group nature adventures, World Wildlife Fund, the world’s leading environmental conservation organization, has named Natural Habitat Adventures its worldwide travel partner—a designation that makes us exceedingly proud!
