Botswana's Ever-changing Okavango Delta
In Botswana’s Okavango Delta, the planet’s largest inland water system, southern Africa’s rivers converge with the Kalahari Desert to create a lush mosaic of flooded marshes, sand bars and dry savanna that is irresistible to abundant wildlife. Join our webinar for a visit to this maze of canals and lagoons—the highlight of any Botswana safari, especially when experienced from 4x4 and makoro, the region’s traditional canoe. The patchwork of flooded areas, acacia scrub and woodlands is an ecological marvel that lures predators and grazers alike, but rainy seasons are less predictable then they used to be. As climate changes and flood levels fluctuate, wildlife behavior is evolving too. The delta’s changing hydrology continues to affect the movement of resident wildlife, including leopard, lion, wild dog, hyena, cheetah, giraffe, elephant, zebra, wildebeest and buffalo. Each species is making modifications to thrive in a changing world. Take a virtual wildlife safari into Okavango Delta’s changing floodwaters with Craig Glatthaar, one of our local partners in Botswana, and see all there is to explore in this emerald oasis.
