Location of Adventure
Tanzania, East Africa
Group Size Limit
Approximately 1-16 Travelers
This is an independent trip arranged on a custom basis for your family, and we can accommodate anywhere from one to approximately 16 guests in the small safari camps we recommend, should you wish to combine your safari with another family or make it a multi-generational affair. Our safari vehicles accommodate a maximum of five to seven travelers, and for larger groups, we can take advantage of multiple safari vehicles, all in radio contact, to enhance our coordination of wildlife sightings among vehicles.
Our Specialized 4x4 Land Rovers and Land Cruisers
As with all of our adventures around the world, our focus is on wildlife and nature viewing, and in Africa a big portion of that is performed during our wildlife drives. In Tanzania our safari vehicles are specially-adapted, reinforced, roof-hatch Land Cruisers, offering each guest a window seat. Since each row has its own roof hatch all guests enjoy excellent viewing opportunities. With no middle seats, there is ample room for gear and extra leg room. Refrigerators/ice boxes keep drinks cool for our guests and an on board library of bird and mammal books offer insight into the region’s natural history. As is the case with all of our vehicles, these safari trucks are enhanced with specialized suspensions to ensure the most comfortable ride possible in the wilds of Africa.
Our Private Leaders
Included
Internal flights as noted, accommodations, meals from dinner on Day 1 to lunch on final day, non-alcoholic drinks at camps, with meals, and in vehicles, house alcoholic drinks in camps, services of NHA driver-guides, local guides and lodge staff, airport transfers on Day 1, Day 3 and final day, permits and entrance fees, and all taxes.
Not Included
Travel to and from start and end point of trip, most alcoholic beverages, gratuities, passport and visa fees, optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, souvenirs, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes, optional travel insurance, and required medical evacuation insurance.
Physical Requirements
Easy
There is no strenuous activity involved during this safari, though a safari vehicle frequently offers a bumpy ride. Wildlife drives often involve long hours of sitting and sometimes bouncing around. While we don't consider this strenuous, it can be uncomfortable and pose a particular type of physical demand on the body. All travelers must be able to climb into and out of the raised 4x4 trucks that we use for safari vehicles. They must also be able to walk to and from the vehicle to our camp accommodations, which sometimes involves walking over uneven ground or on boardwalks. Additionally, while any short walks are considered optional, you will get the most out of your safari experience if you can walk a mile or two over uneven ground without assistance. We recommend that all travelers have an adventurous spirit, as they will often enjoy the closest animal encounters.
Important Information About This Trip
Tanzania is a legendary safari destination, with prolific wildlife. This family Africa safari is designed to showcase the finest wildlife areas of Tanzania while also creating a well-rounded experience that highlights varied ecosystems, magnificent scenery and cultural encounters. We have spent years finessing our itinerary and securing the necessary permits to travel into the best wildlife areas while maintaining the seclusion and enjoying the atmospheric accommodations that make an NHA trip special. Kids of all ages can enjoy seeing a local school for a cultural exchange like no other.
Mandatory Insurance
Since the areas we travel to on this trip are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require medical evacuation insurance for our guests' safety. If you decline the medical evacuation insurance coverage offered by Natural Habitat, we request that you send us documentation of the independent coverage you have selected. We will add the cost of a medical evacuation policy to your tour invoice until you provide our office with proof of coverage including your insurance company's name, contact number and your individual policy number. Thank you for understanding that our policy exists exclusively in the interest of our guests' safety.
Getting There & Getting Home
Arrive Arusha, Tanzania anytime on Day 1. Depending on your return flight time from the Serengeti on the final day, you can typically depart Arusha after 5 pm. We can best serve you if our Natural Habitat Adventures Travel Desk makes your reservations, as our staff is intimately familiar with the special requirements of these programs and can arrange the most efficient and cost-effective travel.
