Group Size
Limited to 14 Travelers with Two Expedition Leaders
A very important feature of our New England adventure is the limited group size, as nature travel is best experienced with fewer travelers for a more intimate and authentic experience. We divide into two vehicles of no more than seven guests each, with each accompanied by a Nat Hab Expedition Leader. This also allows us to split up for activities of varying physical ability requirements—for example, one group may do an easy nature walk while the other embarks on a more significant hike.

It's possible to book this trip on a private basis, in order to travel only with your personally selected companions. Refer to the Trip Pricing section above for details.
Specialized 4x4 Land Rovers and Land Cruisers
Our Private Leaders
Included
Accommodations, services of Nat Hab's professional Expedition Leader(s) and local staff, transportation in vehicles carrying no more than seven guests each, all meals from dinner on Day 1 through breakfast on final day, most gratuities, airport transfers on Day 1 and final day, all activities and entrance fees, all taxes, permits and service fees.
Not Included
Travel to and from the start and end point of your trip, alcoholic beverages, some gratuities, passport and visa fees (if any), optional activities, items of a personal nature (phone calls, laundry, Internet, etc.), airline baggage fees, airport and departure taxes (if any), optional travel protection and medical evacuation insurance.
Physical Requirements
Moderate
This adventure does not require a particularly high degree of physical fitness. However, please be aware that hiking is one of the main activities, and guests will get the most out of this experience if they are able to hike at least 3 miles at a leisurely pace with frequent stops. While we will not be hiking at altitude, the summit of Mt. Washington, which we access via cog railway, is 6,288 feet. Guests with health issues at this altitude should advise Nat Hab of their condition so we can arrange alternate plans. The hiking portions of the trip are on mostly unpaved and uneven terrain, with some inclines. Trip participants should be able to navigate tree roots, rocks, occasional high steps and potential shallow stream crossings. The ability to hike a minimum of 5 miles, including on steeper terrain, will allow access to more overlooks, waterfalls and summit views. Since we travel with two Expedition Leaders, we are able to split the group by physical ability level for different activities. During our stay at Lake Willoughby, guests will have the opportunity (weather permitting) to canoe on the lake. This is an optional activity; guests may choose to hike in the area or relax by the shore instead.
Important Information About This Trip
Our trip is planned to be in northern Vermont and northwest New Hampshire at peak season for fall foliage viewing. We will do our best to avoid crowds, and sections of our itinerary are designed expressly to achieve this, but there will be portions of the trip where this is not possible. Especially in Burlington, Vermont, and at Mount Washington, we may encounter lots of other travelers, especially if we're there on a Saturday or Sunday. We deliberately explore quieter and less-frequented parts of Vermont and New Hampshire to facilitate more peace and tranquility, and we often opt for early morning and late afternoon activities when the light is most dramatic and other travelers have yet to arrive or have already left.

The drives on our itinerary are all very scenic and typically last about 1.5 hours as we transit between locations. We make frequent stops at viewpoints and scenic spots for photos and to stretch our legs. Our Expedition Leaders will make the final decision on our daily routes based on their intimate knowledge of the area and where the leaves may be peaking at any given time.
Mandatory Insurance
Since the areas you will travel to on this trip are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require medical evacuation insurance for this program. If you decline the medical evacuation insurance coverage offered by Natural Habitat Adventures, we require that you send us documentation of the independent coverage you have selected. We recommend that your chosen independent insurance plan includes at least $250,000 in medical evacuation coverage. Please note that we will add the cost of Natural Habitat Adventures' medical evacuation policy (currently $48 per person) to your tour invoice until you provide our office with proof of coverage including your insurance company's name, phone number and your individual policy number. Thank you for understanding that our policy exists exclusively in the interest of our guests' safety.

To protect your investment and to provide peace of mind while you travel, we also strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. Plans may cover everything from medical treatment to trip cancellations and delays and lost luggage. Please contact our office if you would like more information about the medical evacuation and comprehensive travel insurance policies we offer by calling 800-543-8917.
