Located in downtown Burlington near the shores of Lake Champlain and steps from the famous Church Street pedestrian mall, the eco-friendly Hotel Vermont is a sophisticated, contemporary take on a rustic boutique mountain lodge. Stone walls and a wood-burning fireplace in the lobby lend a cozy feel, accented by local photography on the walls and natural wood furniture. Light and airy guest rooms offer touches of local luxury, with crisp white cotton linens and fluffy duvets, organic Lunaroma bath and body products, Vermont flannel bathrobes, and locally made glass soap dishes that hold Vermont Soap Company products. Modern bathrooms feature natural stone tile and walk-in showers with rainfall showerheads. Two onsite restaurants offer fresh, healthy meals made with local ingredients (of course—this is Vermont, after all!). Brick is an outdoor restaurant with a full bar. The menu features wood-fired specialties including square pizzas, seasonal vegetables, burgers and a legendary Maine lobster roll. The bar features local craft beer and Vermont spirits. The indoor Juniper restaurant serves up stylish dishes and is known for its creative, seasonal cocktails. Health is a priority, with a well-appointed fitness center, yoga classes and massage treatments available.
WilloughVale Inn
Location
Westmore, VT
Located in Vermont's tranquil Northeast Kingdom overlooking Lake Willoughby, this historic inn's setting has inspired many people to poetic expression, including Robert Frost. It was originally the farmhouse for the George Conley farm where the Vermont poet and his family camped in tents in the summer 1909, with Frost seeking escape from hay fever in the forested mountain foothills. Guest accommodations today are in 10 elegant, individually furnished rooms in the main inn, which offers gracious, informal ambience and features a big wraparound covered porch and cozy lounge warmed by a woodstove. Rooms have handcrafted Vermont furnishings and art pieces, beautifully dressed beds, 42-inch flat screen TV with DVD player, Wi-Fi, in-room safe, coffeemaker and refrigerator. Gil's Bar and Grill on site offers meals with a view of the lake including a substantial continental breakfast for guests. Canoes and kayaks are available for exploring the lake, whose clear waters are hemmed in on both sides by tall mountains, reminiscent of a fjord.
