The word “safari” rings with romance and adventure. It’s derived from an Arabic word that means “to make a journey,” but its common understanding today denotes a grand adventure in search of roaming wildlife—particularly in Africa, and also in India. Our webinar features two top safari guides from South Africa and India: Richard De Gouveia and Aditya Panda, with us to compare notes about safaris on their respective continents with a focus on two star animals in each locale: the Indian tiger and the African lion. These two regal cats are among the most charismatic creatures on the planet, ruling human imagination from time immemorial — and each is a coveted safari sighting. How similar are these cats to one another? Do they share many behavioral traits? How are they different? Did they evolve completely apart? What is it like to track, observe and photograph them in their natural habitats? Have they ever shared a common range? What conservation threats do they face? Are the pressures on them the same, or different? Find out the answers to these questions and more from this “clash of the titans” banter between two leading safari guides!
