Let’s Go: Discover Glacier Park through an Artist’s Eyes
Host Annie Van Dinther is back with Expedition Leader Lindsey Nielsen, who grew up in northwest Montana on the edge of the national park she loves to share with our travelers. But rather than present its natural history through geology or zoology or another scientific lens, Lindsey is here to share a different perspective: Glacier National Park as seen through the eyes of artists. As a naturalist who is an expert on animal behavior and as a practicing artist, Lindsey finds art a powerful means to depict a sense of place, and to help a viewer experience a powerful connection with a landscape or a subject. She often use drawings and sketches to observe her subjects, finding that art can offer details and nuances that may get lost in words or otherwise be too easily missed. Lindsey discusses the important role art has played in past and present conservation efforts. In this webinar, she introduces some of the artists who have helped promote Glacier National Park. Participants will come away with a sense of how art has played a role in the protection of the park, and how art still plays a role in helping us understand this special place and its renowned wildlife. You may just find, after this presentation, that you’re inspired to head into Glacier’s grandeur (or your own backyard) with a sketchpad, to capture nature’s wonders!
