Illegal trade in tiger parts and products is one of the primary threats to the conservation of tigers in the wild. Our webinar guest, WWF’s Leigh Henry, is an expert on this problem. As director of wildlife policy and wildlife conservation, Leigh plays a key role in WWF efforts to combat the illegal tiger trade and ensure the survival of wild tigers through improved global policies. Tigers are poached to meet demand for their skin, bones and other parts. But illegal tiger parts and products are also sourced from tigers that are bred and held on farms in Asia. And the more the existence of farmed tigers fuels demand for tiger parts, the greater the pressure on tigers in the wild, which face a constant threat from poachers. Leigh is currently leading WWF network efforts to phase out tiger farms. Join her to learn about the illicit tiger trade, how captive tigers complicate efforts to protect their wild counterparts, and where we’re finding hope for protecting wild tigers.
