Grizzly 399: Meet the Most Famous Bear in the World

Join naturalist Kurt Johnson to hear the incredible story of the grizzly bear that changed the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. This 24-year-old female bear, known as 399 (an identity given to her years about by researchers) or the “queen of the Tetons,” is often referred to as the most famous bear in the world, and for good reason. Grizzlies of the Rocky Mountains are notorious for their aggressive nature, but 399 has proven to be very different from most bears in many ways. She tolerates people better than most bears and has demonstrated incredible intelligence while successfully raising many litters of cubs, including a set of four this past year. Her story is tied both personally and professionally with Kurt's path, and he will talk about how this extraordinary bear has been an important part of his and his family's life over the past 14 years, as she has also become a poster child for grizzly bear conservation.
