“Fireside Chats” are a webinar series focused on dynamic animal interactions in the wild This week, we join Matt Meyer and Richard de Gouveia to learn about pachyderms! The term pachyderm refers to large, thick-skinned mammals, and it provides a means by which safari guides typically group elephant, rhino and hippo together. Massive, imposing, dominant, powerful and fearless describe how these “big guys” live life in accordance with their environment. But what happens when an immoveable object meets an unstoppable force? Today, on World Rhino Day, Richard and Matt chat about some of the mighty interactions they have witnessed between these gargantuan beasts and how their environments are often shaped by their behavior.
