Celebrate World Tourism Day with WWF: Helping Africa’s People & Wildlife Rebound from the Pandemic

In honor of World Tourism Day, join us for an inspiring presentation with WWF's Nikhil Advani, Director Climate, Communities and Wildlife. He’ll talk about the Africa Nature-Based Tourism Platform, a project helping communities, safari operators and conservation areas in 11 southern and eastern African countries rebound from the Covid-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 crisis has crippled economies and industries all over the world, and nature-based tourism in Africa has been one of the leading casualties. In response, with $1.9 million in funding from the Global Environment Facility, WWF has implemented the African Nature-Based Tourism Platform to connect funders to the communities and local enterprises most in need of support. A steady revenue stream is essential to critical conservation operations such as poaching reduction, wildlife monitoring and local community benefit-sharing programs. WWF’s goal is to mobilize at least $15 million+ in Covid-19 emergency relief efforts and to build greater resilience into the nature-based tourism business model into the future. Nikhil will share the history and purpose of World Tourism Day, the role of sustainable tourism in conservation, and the impact of Covid-19 on local economies. He’ll then provide details about the launch and implementation of the Nature-Based Tourism Platform.
