Botswana's Okavango Delta: A Desert Eden

Botswana’s Okavango Delta is the world’s largest inland water system and one of the richest wildlife enclaves in Africa. Originating with the Okavango River in Angola, its water sources sustain great herds of game, hundreds of bird species and large numbers of predators. Learn all about the fascinating geology that has formed the Okavango, creating a sprawling green oasis amid the sands and dry savanna of the Kalahari Desert. Some parts of this remote delta are a permanently flooded maze of wetlands, with seasonal rains producing floods that form a vast network of interconnected waterways. This mosaic of varied landscapes also includes a mix of dry islands, open savannas and lush riverine woodlands that are home to a profusion of flora and fauna specifically adapted to this unique environment. During the dry season, inland waterholes support wildlife as does the Gomoti River, which provides a year-round lifeline for many species. Join zoologist and Expedition Leader Russell Gerber for a virtual adventure into the wild heart of the Okavango Delta, and discover why this unique region should be at the top of your list for an African safari.
