“If the tiger is the king of the jungle, the elephant is its lord,” according to an old Indian proverb. The largest land mammal in Asia, elephants have a fascinating natural history and form complex social communities with structures quite similar to those in human societies. While Asian elephants’ eons-old association with humans on the subcontinent has earned the species an important place in Indian culture, human-elephant conflicts in shared landscapes present modern-day conservation challenges. Indian naturalist and Expedition Leader Aditya Panda has spent thousands of hours observing and photographing wild Asian elephants. And he's also actively involved with conservation efforts to protect them. Join Aditya to hear about his many years of personal experience working to mitigate human-elephant conflict in eastern India, including as a safari guide leading small groups of Nat Hab travelers to view these magnificent animals in their wild natural habitat.
