A very important feature of our Colombia ecotourism adventure is the limited group size, as nature encounters are best experienced in the quiet, intimate, low-impact context of a small groups of travelers.

In order to participate fully in this itinerary, travelers must be able to walk at a steady pace for 3 miles over uneven terrain, and tolerate daily excursions in extremely hot and humid conditions. In addition, travelers must feel comfortable at mid-altitude, as walks in the Coffee Region will be at elevations up to 7,800 feet, and we sleep at an elevation of 4,900 feet for three consecutive nights. The journey ends in Bogota, at an elevation of 9,200 feet, where travelers will have day rooms available—and while there's no need for physical exertion in Bogota, guests need to be comfortable at this altitude. (For comparison, Denver is at 5,280 feet and Quito, Ecuador is at 9,200 feet.) There are a number of medium-length walks (typically 1-2 miles each, but occasionally longer walks of 3 miles) over a variety of terrain, including bumpy stone paths, cobblestone, grassland and unpaved forest trails that can be rough, muddy and slippery, with some steep inclines. These walks can be quite taxing in the hot and humid climate. In some areas shorter walks may be available for those who choose, in lieu of more strenuous activities. Other activities on this trip include canoe tours up to 2 hours in length, and safari drives on bumpy dirt roads. Travelers must be able to climb a short ladder or steep stairs in order to get in and out of safari vehicles. For travelers who choose, there is optional (but included) horseback riding during our stay at Corocora Wildlife Camp. There are several long drives (up to 3 hours) on sometimes bumpy, uneven and mountainous winding roads. Guests who are prone to car sickness are advised to bring medication. All activities are optional.
