Joey Sudmeier

Joey grew up in Colorado, camping, skiing, snowboarding, mountain biking and doing everything active in the outdoors you can imagine. He studied ecotourism at James Cook University in Cairns, Australia. Truth be told, he'd had three traveling goals since he was 10 years old: Egyptian pyramids, African safari and Australia, so college in Cairns was checking one off of the bucket list. There, he was fortunate to live just 5 minutes' walk from the rain forest for regular hikes in an environment completely new and unknown to him, and about a mile from the coast and the Great Barrier Reef, where he dove and snorkeled weekly.

After graduating college, Joey got a job at Walt Disney World and perfected his Mickey Mouse impersonation while working in customer service and finance. Following his stint at the “Happiest Place on Earth,” Joey moved back to Colorado and spent 10 years in the travel and hospitality industry working at 4-star hotels. Later, he helped build a few startups, including an experience-based wedding registry which represents his passion for collecting memories rather than things.

Joey's time in Australia sparked a passion for travel that likely never will be extinguished, so he has found creative ways to budget time and money for trips around the world. He has been to dozens of countries in search of adventure. Memorable experiences include napping with kangaroos, experiencing rainfall in the Amazon, making friends with a llama at Machu Picchu, and getting ecstatic every time he sees a monkey in the wild. When he’s not exploring other countries or helping plan adventures for others as an Adventure Specialist at Nat Hab, Joey enjoys those same outdoor activities in Colorado that he grew up with, as well as playing in a variety of volleyball tournaments throughout the year.

Traffic jam during the Great Migration in Kenya. While visiting the Galapagos Islands with Nat Hab I did as the locals do.On my first Nat Hab adventure in Churchill, Manitoba.I was in awe observing this mom and cub search for food on the tundra. They say you haven't been to the Amazon until you've experienced a torrential downpour; this photo is my proof.I'll never forget when a couple elephants came into our camp and started drinking out of our water supply; we were happy to oblige. While touring a glacier in Alaska I didn't hesitate to drink the freshest water I've ever tasted. To celebrate my new job with Nat Hab I took an impromptu road trip to camp at the Grand Canyon. In case you didn't read in the bio, spotting monkeys makes me excited every-single-time.When your name means 'baby kangaroo' you can't help but make friends with the local wildlife.Seeing lions on safari is always exciting, but this opportunity to follow young cubs was truly special. The Maasai of Tanzania are kind people and always happy to meet.On a road trip in Morocco I stopped to observe some monkeys and this one looks like he's contemplating the meaning of the universe; I just love it!Randomly pulled off the road while traveling on the South Island of New Zealand for a brief hike and snapped this mesmerizing photo. This was the first time I saw penguins in the wild and I love this photo because the downturned head paired with the sign make it look like this little guy is headed to work early in the morning. On a camel expedition in the Sahara I found the shadows to provide fascinating photo options. The ruins of Tikal in Central America served both my adventure spirit as well as my nerdy Star Wars side: filming of the first movie was here. The awesome power of Victoria Falls moves me emotionally every time I look at this photo.Observing an active volcano erupting in Guatemala was unforgettable. Because we started the hike at 4AM, we saw the red glow of the lava at night followed by the billowing smoke come dawn.
