Rob Norton

Guide Rob NortonBorn and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Rob spent his youth exploring the forests, lakes and rivers of the Ottawa Valley and Gatineau Hills. It was here at a young age that he first discovered a love for wilderness. Whether on foot, skis or in a canoe, Rob is most at home exploring wild areas where the air is fresh and wildlife roams free. Rob’s interest in the natural world and his passion for sharing it with others led him to a career in ecotourism. Since 2011, Rob has lead multi-week wilderness canoeing expeditions in the Canadian Arctic and subarctic, exploring the vast wilderness of Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and the Yukon. Rob enjoys sharing his knowledge of Arctic flora and fauna as well as the ancient cultures and indigenous people who have long been at home in these wild landscapes. Rob also teaches whitewater canoeing and kayaking in Ontario. Since 2013, Rob has been pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Ecology at the University of Guelph, Ontario. Learning about the ecological systems that maintain the world, and how we can protect these systems, especially in the North, are the core of his academic interests.

Upcoming Adventures with Rob:
Polar Bears of Churchill

Praise from Nat Hab travelers:

R. Taffet

"Where do I begin? Rob was awesome! He cared so much for everyone and everything. We always knew exactly what we were going to do and when. He had so much information about where we were, the community, it’s people, history and the present day. He was helpful, funny and kind. I’d travel with him anytime, anywhere!"

G. McDonnell
"We could not have had a better guide. He is delightful, efficient, knowledgeable and every other adjective one can think of. He is a major plus for your company."

G. Dielmann
"I've been on many trips with Expedition Leaders, Rob is the best I've ever seen. He has incredible people skills and is an endless fountain of information on polar bears and Churchill. His professionalism, sensitivity, generosity and attention to my safety were unsurpassed. Based solely on my experience with Rob, I would definitely do another trip with Nat Hab. He represents your company as an expertly trained professional."

P. Davis
"We travel a LOT and have had many tour guides. Rob is absolutely, without question, one of the best we have ever had. He was friendly and attentive. He knew his subject matter backwards and forwards. It was almost impossible to stump him with our questions. It was especially helpful that he was Canadian, because he knew so much about Canadian history. He had eagle eyes and was able to spot 'invisible' wildlife of all sorts."

J. Kizner
"Rob is a wonderful guide. He's knowledgeable, caring and enthusiastic. He made the trip so enjoyable with his sense of humor, his knowledge of all things about Churchill and his great singing! He's a delightful human being."

E. Obus
"Rob is the man—knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. He should be crowned King of the Arctic."

R. Raphel

"Rob was superb—an extremely well informed, helpful and extraordinarily self-possessed young man who will go far in whatever he does. He was responsive without being obsequious and enthusiastic without being too overly cheery. Well done!"

M. Spurgeon

"Our Expedition Leader, Rob, went above and beyond to ensure that each of us in our group experienced the most amazing trip ever! Rob's passion for what he does came through daily. His vast knowledge of polar bears, the environment, Churchill and the landscape was truly remarkable to witness in one so young. I don't believe there was a question asked that he couldn't answer. In addition to the joy and excitement of being able to view polar bears in their natural habitat, having Rob as our Expedition Leader was a welcome bonus!"

D. Wilson

"Rob was INCREDIBLE! He is the best guide EVER. What a remarkable young man. He was informative, knowledgeable, entertaining and held everyone's interest—we can't sing his praises enough. You have a true jewel in this employee!"

D. Schaefer
"Rob was fantastic. His knowledge, sense of humor and kindness were fabulous. You can tell he loves what he does and is passionate about it! We loved him!"

S. Sultan
"I have been on upwards of 15 tours of this kind across companies and across the world. Rob was one of the best, most informed, infectiously enthusiastic guides I have had. The way he presented ecology and polar bear biology in particular was fantastic."

M. Reilly

"I never give '10's', but Rob was exceptional. He was uplifting, accommodating, insightful, very knowledgeable, caring, polite and he read us poetry and Inuit stories! He was PERFECT. I am shocked I am even writing this. You need to clone Rob—he has a bright future with you. I would recommend (and already have) going on this Nat Hab trip, just based on our guide. This was my first trip with you, and it will not be my last. :)"

J. Gray
"Rob was a real gem to have as our Expedition Leader and is a wonderful asset to Nat Hab. He was knowledgeable, articulate, full of fun, enthusiastic and passionate about Churchill. He was supportive and respectful to both our drivers and local guides. He ensured we had the most wonderful adventure."
