Isaac Rotich

Isaac is a world-class naturalist and fantastically enthusiastic guide—one of only a few gold-certified guides in Kenya. His career in the bush started with mountain bike safaris in the early 1990s. He quickly worked his way up through the ranks to become head guide at a flagship camp in the Maasai Mara. Beyond his guiding career in Kenya, he has led safaris in a variety of destinations, including Tanzania, Uganda the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Botswana. In 2004, Isaac returned to Kenya to work as head guide and manager at camps in the Maasai Mara and Amboseli before joining Natural Habitat Adventures in Tanzania and Kenya.

Isaac has a deep passion for communities and conservation. He is particularly driven to improve the livelihoods of communities living alongside wildlife—especially cultures that are steadily vanishing in our modern world. Although his knowledge of the bush and wildlife is all-encompassing, he has a particular passion for birding and has completed extensive study in ornithology. Isaac lives in the Ngong Hills on the outskirts of Nairobi with his wife and three children.

Pride of East Africa: Kenya & Tanzania

Praise from Nat Hab travelers:

M. Couch

"Isaac is the reason we loved our first safari and will return to Africa again. Wildlife tracking is in Isaac's DNA; his ability to find very rare and amazing animal encounters is astounding—leopard cubs playing in a tree during a rainstorm; a leopard dining on a carcass in a tree branch on our night drive; packs of hyenas and jackals fighting over a lion's abandoned buffalo carcass; a mother cheetah taking down a Thomson's gazelle while her baby watched. Isaac never failed to be concerned with the wellbeing of each guest, and he brought a wealth of knowledge of the people, creatures and habitats of Tanzania. I can't believe how much we learned in the bush with Isaac."

R. Smith

"Isaac was so enthusiastic about every sighting we had and made them all feel very special. He connected with every member of our group and accommodated individual needs with ease. He was highly informative and seemed to have endless energy. I loved him as did my whole family."

K. Van Elden

"I can not say enough good things about Isaac. He is a professional in every sense of the word. The sheer amount of knowledge he has, as well as how apparent his passion is for his job, the wildlife and his country, is both inspiring and beyond impressive. I felt completely safe, relaxed, and had so much fun (which is important, especially when you're on vacation!) during our time together. He exudes an air of capability and control at all times. I feel so extremely lucky that Isaac was our guide, and I could have talked to him and asked him questions until the end of time. What a gem you have in him!"

 R. Timney

"Isaac's knowledge and professionalism, along with his courtesy and attention to everyone's wellbeing, were instrumental in making our trip so enjoyable and above expectations."

M. Bijur
"We all felt Isaac was exceptional—smart, polite and attentive. We are in our 70s and have done much travel. Isaac, as well as the camp staff, were top-notch."

V. Ferenbach
"Isaac definitely went above and beyond. Were very lucky to have him as our Expedition Leader, as he has such a buoyant personality, is broadly knowledgeable and is sensitive to the smallest detail."

L. Franklin
"Isaac is an exceptional guide. His maturity, knowledge, passion, sense of fun and attention to detail could not have been improved. He really tried to make everyone happy with their experience, and if any issues arose he endeavored to fix them promptly. I cannot think of a thing that could improve our experience with Isaac. I believe he went above and beyond."
