This new lodge offers deluxe accommodations in close proximity to Volcanoes National Park, home to Rwanda's endangered mountain gorillas. Surrounded by lush gardens, the lodge offers eight extra-spacious guest rooms and a family suite. Rooms have a host of amenities including Wi-Fi, flat screen TVs, and mini bar. A king-size bed (or two twins) is dressed in crisp white linens and contemporary textiles. Large en suite bathrooms have a rain shower and deep porcelain soaking tub—a welcome indulgence after a day of gorilla trekking in the rain forest. Each room blends traditional and contemporary style elements, with dark wood furniture, sisal rugs and a neutral palette creating a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe. Survey the panorama of the Rwenzori volcanoes from private verandas with cushioned chairs, then retreat indoors to your comfortable air-conditioned room. The restaurant, bar and lounge area offers a sweeping view of the volcanoes and emerald-green hills clad in rain forest. After your gorilla trekking adventure, retreat to a hammock in the garden, enjoy a swim in the pool, or relax with a massage.
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Perched at 7,000 feet in the foothills of Rwanda’s Virunga Mountains, the Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge offers elegance and spectacular views over the volcanoes and the green countryside. It is also located just minutes away from the Volcaones National Park headquarters, where gorilla tracking safaris begin. Nine spacious individual cottages offer tranquility and a nod to regional traditions, having been constructed using local stone and Rwandese terra cotta tile. The decor reflects warm colors and natural textures, with throw rugs, plush furniture and splashes of strong geometric patterns. Surrounded by lush gardens, each en suite cottage has a private covered porch and a sitting area with a cozy fireplace. Among many inviting lodging details, muddy boots are cleaned daily after you’re finished trekking, and a hot water bottle is tucked into your bed each night.

The main lodge is replete with polished wood floors, cozy chairs for you to sink into, three large cracking fireplaces, a library, two inviting decks and a dining room. The lodge is owned by a Community Trust, SACOLA, which uses rentals and community fees from the lodge to drive socioeconomic and conservation initiatives in the communities adjacent to the national park.
Bisate Lodge

Traditional Rwandan architecture meets discerning contemporary style at the edge of Volcanoes National Park in the new six-villa Bisate Lodge. Encompassing more than 66 acres of rugged topography that shields the lodge from any unnatural disturbances, including light from neighboring towns, the lodge gazes directly at towering Mount Bisoke and offers a sense of being inside the park. It also has easy access to park headquarters for gorilla and golden monkey treks. Designed using traditional Rwandan building elements, the lodge’s spherical, thatched villas mimic rolling hills across the landscape.

Each villa has a bedroom, sitting area, en suite bathroom with a soaking tub and separate shower, and a private deck with dramatic volcanic mountain views. Parquet floors feature warming throw rugs and furnishings evoke sophisticated modernist design accomplished with natural, local materials. The feeling is warm and rich, with plush beds and furnishings perfect for relaxation after a day of trekking. The lodge's social spaces include a main lounge, dining and bar areas, a viewing deck and a wine cellar. Bisate lodge introduces an innovative and sustainable model for the area, working alongside local farmers to rehabilitate land along the park border.
