Physical Requirements
Moderate to Difficult

This adventure does not require an exceptionally high degree of physical fitness, though travelers should be reasonably good physical shape to participate fully. The hikes included are easy to moderate in terms of physical exertion. However, please be aware that hiking is one of the main activities on this trip, with two or three excursions per day taking place at altitudes of 4,000–9,500 feet above sea level. In order to participate, travelers should be able to walk unassisted for at least 3 miles in a single stretch over rough terrain, and both up and down steep and sustained inclines, with some gain and loss in altitude required in certain locations. The group may do multiple hikes during a day, with total distances exceeding 6 miles. Travelers should also be aware that our itinerary includes several cable car rides, which may be daunting for anyone with a fear of heights. In some cases, these modes of transportation are necessary and we can't make alternate arrangements. Our days generally start quite early and are very full with activities, including a few long and winding drives. Note that all hikes are completely optional, and travelers should only participate in those activities in which they feel comfortable. While travelers are not required to participate in all activities, should a guest opt out of the day’s scheduled activities, we cannot always guarantee that alternatives will be available. Those travelers who would like to take longer or more strenuous hikes may have opportunities to do so. The mountain roads we travel are often quite winding, so if travelers are prone to motion sickness, they should take adequate precautions to prevent it.
Important Information About This Trip
Our Dolomites journey is different from most, deliberately taking you away from the most crowded areas and into wilder locales that unveil the region's rich natural history and cultural traditions. Accordingly, we stay in authentic, smaller-scale accommodations in less-traveled locations. While they are very comfortable, rooms are often a bit smaller than those typically found in North America. But whatever we may forsake in space, we more than make up for in setting, surrounded by nature amid the Italian Alps' most awe-inspiring sights. Please be prepared to spend time outdoors in unpredictable weather, which may include heavy rain and wind—or perfect sunshine.
Mandatory Insurance
Since the areas you will travel to on this trip are remote and wild (that's why we go there!), we require medical evacuation insurance for this program. If you decline the medical evacuation insurance coverage offered by Natural Habitat Adventures, we require that you send us documentation of the independent coverage you have selected. We recommend that your chosen independent insurance plan includes at least $250,000 in medical evacuation coverage. Please note that we will add the cost of Natural Habitat Adventures' medical evacuation policy (currently $48 per person) to your tour invoice until you provide our office with proof of coverage including your insurance company's name, phone number and your individual policy number. Thank you for understanding that our policy exists exclusively in the interest of our guests' safety.

To protect your investment and to provide peace of mind while you travel, we also strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance. Plans may cover everything from medical treatment to trip cancellations and delays and lost luggage. Please contact our office if you would like more information about the medical evacuation and comprehensive travel insurance policies we offer by calling 800-543-8917.
Getting There & Getting Home
Please note that this trip begins and ends in two different cities and countries. Arrive in Innsbruck, Austria by 4 pm on Day 1 for a welcome dinner at 7 pm. You may depart Verona, Italy anytime on the final day. We are prepared to handle all your round-trip travel arrangements. We can serve you best if Natural Habitat Adventures’ Travel Desk makes your reservations, as our staff is intimately familiar with the special requirements of this program and can make the most efficient arrangements.
