COVID-19 Testing & Vaccination Requirements for Peru Trips

Updated June 13, 2022

This information applies to The Great Amazon River ExpeditionDiscover Amazon & Machu Picchu and custom Peru trips.

To Join Your Trip:

COVID-19 VACCINATIONS
Currently, Nat Hab requires all guests 5 and older to be fully vaccinated in order to participate. Children under the age requirement must obtain a negative COVID-19 molecular test result prior to departure. The most common types of molecular tests are PCR and NAAT tests. Antigen tests are not accepted.

As of January 27, 2022, Peru is now requiring adults 40 and older to have proof of a booster shot in order to travel between provinces, take a domestic flight, or enter an enclosed space such as a restaurant or museum. You can also provide a negative COVID-19 molecular test result from the prior 48 hours but since our trips are always on the move, it would be quite inconvenient (and expensive!) to test that much during the trip. Guests do not need to provide their booster information to Nat Hab. A booster shot is defined as a third dose if your original vaccine was two doses (Moderna, Pfizer or AstraZeneca) or a second dose if it was a one-dose regimen (such as Johnson & Johnson). You will need to show proof, so please plan to carry your vaccine card with you at all times. Travelers 40 and older are exempt from receiving their booster if they received the final dose of their original vaccine in the prior three months.*

*Nat Hab is aware that the CDC only recommends a booster shot if it's been 5 months since receiving the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines. We have elevated this discrepancy to the Peru Tourism Board and will update this page if they change their requirements.

Please note, because Peru requires adults 18 and older who reside in Peru to have proof of a booster shot in order to enter the country and travel in between provinces, there are have been reports of various airline carriers requesting proof of a booster to all guests 18 and older. If you are between the ages of 18 and 39 and have not received a booster, we highly recommend obtaining a negative COVID-19 molecular test result from the prior 48 hours to ensure you are able to board your flight.

Fully vaccinated guests should upload their vaccination card to their Adventure Portal prior to departure.

TESTING
No pre-trip test is required by Nat Hab for fully vaccinated guests to join their trip. All Nat Hab guests are required to test negative on a COVID-19 test, which Nat Hab will facilitate, at the start of their trip. Before you depart, we also recommend taking a COVID-19 test. After all, no one wants to travel halfway around the world and then test positive! Please note that you are responsible for knowing the requirements in place for any countries you are transiting through en route to your trip destination.

Children who are unvaccinated (and under Nat Hab's age requirement for vaccines) must present a molecular test with a negative result (taken within 72 hours) prior to boarding an incoming flight to Peru.

REQUIRED HEALTH FORM
The Peruvian Government requires all travelers to fill out an Affidavit of Health and Geolocation Authorization at  this link.  This form must be completed electronically 72 hours before you travel. The form will not be valid if you complete it outside of that timeframe. You can find instructions for how to fill out the form here.

During Your Trip:

TESTING FOR TRIPS IN THE PERUVIAN AMAZON
To increase safety on our trips and add another layer of protection for all guests, staff and partners, Nat Hab will be facilitating a rapid antigen test on Day 1 of your adventure prior to meeting the group. Your Expedition Leader or a Nat Hab representative will provide more details upon arrival.

In order to board the Delfin, a rapid Antigen test must be completed within 48 hours of boarding the boat. For trips that board the Delfin on Day 2, this will be the same as your Day 1 test. For guests traveling on our Discover Amazon & Machu Picchu trip (with the itinerary starting in Machu Picchu, then traveling to the Amazon), Nat Hab is arranging for an additional rapid test to be done within 48 hours of boarding and will ensure everyone receives their test results in time.

COUNTRY-SPECIFIC PROTOCOLS
Face Shields & KN95 Masks
When taking trains in Peru, you will be required to wear a face shield in addition to a facial covering. These are laws issued by the Peruvian government, regardless of vaccination status. You will also be asked to wear two surgical masks or a KN95 mask to create more protection so please make sure to bring enough facial coverings. A face shield will be provided to you on arrival and you'll receive two KN95 masks in your Pre-Departure Package.

Lima Airport Arrivals
Due to restrictions from COVID-19, our local staff in Lima is not allowed to enter the airport. After arriving to Lima and passing through immigration and customs, walk through the taxi area and head outside the airport. You will see the Wyndham Costa del Sol hotel directly across the street. A Nat Hab rep will be at the Wyndham to help you check in. Walk across the street and check-in to your room using your last name. If you have issues, please call +51-99-000-1462.

Cusco Airport Arrivals
For guests joining the Machu Picchu Extension after The Great Amazon River Expedition or on a custom trip: Our staff is also not allowed to enter the Cusco airport area so all travelers will have to walk out of the airport and along a sidewalk to reach the airport exit. Some taxis are able to enter the airport facility but private vehicles are not. You'll find a Nat Hab staff member holding a Nat Hab sign and they will help you to the vehicle. You can call the same number as listed above if you have any issues.

Booster Shots

Guests on our Discover Amazon & Machu Picchu trip will travel to Cusco with a Nat Hab Expedition Leader.

To Return Home to the United States:

Starting June 12, 2022, a negative COVID-19 test to re-enter the U.S. is no longer required. If you were charged for this test along with your final balance, you will be refunded. This government mandate is reevaluated every 90 days. If you require a COVID-19 test for your home country or onward travels, we will be happy to help direct you towards online resources for obtaining the required test, though you will need to arrange and pay for the test on your own.

For more information about the CDC’s current requirements, please visit cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/testing-international-air-travelers.html

FLIGHTS
Some airlines, depending upon the country you are departing from and/or the country you are connecting through, may require a COVID-19 test prior to your flight’s departure. Please be sure to research your airline’s requirements for your specific flight routing. If you will require testing, please let our Adventure Concierge team know prior to departure so they can direct you to online resources to book your own test.

We also recommend double-checking your on-board mask requirements with the airline you are using to travel abroad.

EXTENDING TO ANOTHER COUNTRY
If you have booked an extension through Nat Hab to another country, Nat Hab will facilitate any testing required for entry into that country. Please see your extension itinerary for specific details.
