Horathapola Estate
Location
Kandanegedara, Sri Lanka

Located in a rural area approximately one hour from our arrival point at Bandaranaike International Airport, this elegant private bungalow on a 50-acre estate offers a serene introduction to Sri Lanka. Plenty of modern comforts complement the stately colonial architecture, for the optimal combination of amenities and atmosphere. Just five bedrooms with oversized en suite baths have private verandas overlooking the green foliage. Each spacious room has high ceilings and polished wood floors, air conditioning and a fan, and all are individually furnished with antiques and ornate, hand-carved four-poster canopy beds. Common areas include large living and dining areas and a library. 

Immaculate lawns and manicured gardens surround the house, a tranquil backdrop for the saltwater swimming pool, Jacuzzi, walking trails and vibrant birdlife—species you may hear and see include an array of varied barbets, orioles, parrots, woodpeckers, doves, drongos and flycatchers. Beyond the garden, the estate's organic farm grows pepper, cashew, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, lemongrass, and many more herbs and spices. Neatly planted rows of organic coconut, jackfruit, soursop, tamarind, mango and guava provide sustainably sourced fruit for the kitchen and families in the adjacent village. There's also a rice paddy on the periphery. All this homegrown bounty provides abundant fare for the creative chef, who employs traditional rural cooking techniques to prepare the freshest and most authentic dishes: fresh spices are ground on a stone, curries are cooked in clay pots, fruits are juiced for breakfast. 

Jetwing Vil Uyana
Location
Sigiriya, Sri Lanka

Escape to a luxurious sanctuary within Sri Lanka’s cultural triangle, near world-renowned national parks and UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Each harmonious dwelling at Jetwing Vil Uyana is named after the natural habitat that surrounds it, paying tribute to the forest, garden and marsh. The sustainable structures are built with a fusion of rustic elements and modern amenities. The design uses sustainable local materials including woven reeds and rattan that create an atmosphere of natural elegance. The thatched roof bungalows open wide to nature, visible from your plush platform bed under a gauzy mosquito net. A signature open architectural design is seen across the restaurant, lounge and library with large, open spaces which reduce the requirement for artificial illumination and ventilation. En suite bathrooms have deep soaking tubs, and each bungalow also features air conditioning, Wi-Fi, satellite TV with an accompanying DVD player, a mini bar and tea and coffee making facilities. Relax at the spa with a tropical treatment, or take a dip in your tranquil private plunge pool. The resort's kitchens cook with biogas stoves, and use cinnamon wood-fired biomass stoves as well.


W15 Lake Gregory
Location
Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka
 
Set high in the hills in a region known as "Little England," the recently renovated W15 Lake Gregory blends colonial ambience with contemporary design elements and amenities. With views down to the lake and Galway's Land National Park below, the boutique hotel provides sophisticated accommodations in an atmosphere of warmth and comfort. Spacious rooms have high ceilings, rich wood floors, traditional wood furnishings including a writing desk, a settee, some with poster beds and others with wood and rattan bed frames. Marble baths have rain showers, bathrobes, hair dryer and deluxe toiletries. Guest rooms have private terraces overlooking either the lake or gardens, and plenty of glass and white walls lend an airy feel. Amenities include luxury bedding, flat screen TV, high-speed Internet, multi-point power outlets and adapter, safe, and tea and coffee-making facilities. A heated indoor pool invites relaxing. Dining at W15 Lake Gregory is a special experience, with fresh, locally sourced international dishes served amid the ambience of colonial Ceylon. 

 



Kulu Safari Camp
Location
Yala National Park, Sri Lanka

During our stay at Kulu Safari Camp, we find a blend of classic safari ambience, outstanding service, comfortable accommodations and a minimal environmental footprint—the ideal combination for a base camp while exploring one of Sri Lanka’s premier wildlife regions. “Kulu” means “untamed," in reference to Sri Lanka’s wild buffalo in the native Sinhala language, and that spirit is celebrated in the camp's identity and practices. Ideally located for exploring Yala National Park, Kulu Safari Camp offers seclusion as well as proximity to Yala's famous leopards and other sought-after wildlife. 

Deluxe canvas tents on raised wooden platforms are custom-made in South Africa by one of the world’s leading safari outfitters. They offer spacious interiors (over 200 square feet) with en suite bathrooms that have both hot and cold showers. Fly screens support excellent ventilation. Individual verandas offer a private space for sipping an evening drink or relaxing with a good book, while dining is a social occasion at outdoor tables set for outstanding full-service meals. 

Ecological consciousness is a hallmark at Kulu Safari Camp. The operation's strict “no-plastic” policy saved approximately 5,000 single-use plastic water bottles in 2015. Instead, guests are offered unlimited purified water in reusable glass bottles—or they are always welcome to refill the stainless steel water bottle that Nat Hab issues to every traveler. Most of the camp's power is generated from solar and rechargeable batteries, and a fully organic, eco-friendly waste management system has also been implemented. 
Mosvold Villa
Location
Ahangama, Sri Lanka

Located on Sri Lanka's southern coast, Mosvold Villa offers its guests an exclusive private retreat on the Indian Ocean in a luxurious estate-like setting. Just six deluxe rooms are luxuriously equipped with a suite of amenities while fusing contemporary and antique decor in exquisite interiors.  Elegant furnishings include carved wooden beds with crisp white linens (some with canopies), overstuffed chairs and woven grass mat rugs. All rooms have air conditioning, ceiling fans, hot and cold showers, mini bar, tea/coffee making facilities, complimentary Wi-Fi, and views of the ocean or gardens. The oceanfront restaurant at the villa is a casual dining venue that features beautifully prepared Sri Lankan cuisine, with the specialty being fresh seafood. At the poolside bar, cool off with a fine tropical cocktail or choose from a range of local and international beverages as you enjoy the ocean vista beyond.
Taj Samudra
Location
Colombo, Sri Lanka

Experience legendary luxury, impeccable service and magnificent ocean views at Colombo's premier hotel address. The Taj Samudra, set among 11 acres of lavish gardens and manicured lawns overlooking the sea, enjoys an ideal location facing Galle Face Green with the city center just beyond. Guests are welcomed in the grand lobby featuring intricately carved stone panels, mirrored columns, potted palms and elegant furniture. Large, richly furnished guest rooms enjoying views of twinkling city lights through panoramic windows. Rooms have one king or two double beds with crisp cotton linens and goose down pillows and duvets; wood furnishings including a settee and chair with ottoman; marble bathrooms have a separate tub and shower, high-end bath amenities, and plush robe and slippers. A 32-inch flat screen LCD TV offers a range of international channels, and a DVD player is available on request. Complimentary basic Wi-Fi is included. Rooms also have an electronic safe, mini bar and tea/coffee-making facilities.

Several award-winning restaurants serve a melange of Asian and international flavors, from authentic Indian to classic Chinese and contemporary Japanese. An extensive 24-hour casual buffet is also available. Lattice lounge serves exotic Sri Lankan teas and coffees, as well as an elaborate English afternoon tea, in an atmosphere of relaxed luxury. A spectacular swimming pool provides a central focal point for the property, and guests can also take advantage of the 24-hour fitness center for exercise opportunities.
