India Tiger Quest: A Photo Safari

Optimal Photography Opportunities in Ranthambore National Park—Superb Tiger Territory!
7 Days From $7295 (+internal air)
We’ve designed our exclusive India photography expedition to capitalize on the very best opportunities to see Bengal tigers and other wildlife. India’s strictly protected reserves remain one of the only places on Earth to observe tigers in their natural habitat. As the Indian spring moves into summer, animals anticipate the monsoon that is still weeks away. While they seek shelter during the soaring heat of midday, they still must drink and feed, moving to water at least twice a day. April to mid-June is thus the best time for tiger sightings, and our small group explores the park during this season, visiting twice daily in the cooler early morning and late afternoon. We allow plenty of time to obtain unhurried photos, while acknowledging that photo opportunities are not guaranteed and sightings may be fleeting.

What Makes Our India Photo Safari So Exceptional?

This wildlife photography safari is meticulously planned to maximize your chances to get photos of some of the world's last remaining wild Bengal tigers. To see a tiger in its natural habitat is a rare gift indeed...and this unusual trip provides the very best opportunities to photograph them, as well as other Indian wildlife. Here's how:

  1. An Exclusive, Compact, Tiger-Focused Itinerary
No other tour operator we know of offers this one-week photo safari that gets you in and out of Bengal tiger habitat in a short time span. If your primary purpose in coming to India is to get wild tiger images at the best time of year to see them, this expedition gives you the best chance!
  2. The Optimal Location at the Right Season for Photography
India’s Ranthambore National Park in eastern Rajasthan is legendary tiger country. Though we visit when the weather is hot, this means our odds of seeing tigers are much higher, since they must emerge from hiding to come to water twice daily. Our best chances for photo opportunities will be at these waterholes. It's also the time of year when the park's dry deciduous vegetation is most sparse, offering the least camouflage for tigers in the bush. And in addition to tigers, we have excellent chances to photograph a multitude of other native wildlife, too.
  3. Just 2 Guests Per Safari Truck—6 Guests Max!
We cap our small group at just six travelers. This assures you personal attention and guidance from our naturalist-photographer guide, room to carry all your gear comfortably, and the flexibility for us to adapt to changing conditions (light, weather, animal movements) in a way that maximizes photo opportunities. And, of course, you’re guaranteed a "window" seat in our open 4x4 safari vehicles, for unimpeded camera access.
  4. India's Top Photography Expedition Leaders
Not only are our Expedition Leaders accomplished photographers ready with coaching and tips to help you get the wildlife photographs you’ve dreamed of, they are also highly trained naturalists with in-depth knowledge of the Indian bush and the creatures that live there. Most of our guides average 15 years’ experience in the field. We know a nature trip is only as good as the guide, and that’s why we take pride in hiring the world’s best! See Expedition Leader bios with traveler comments regarding the quality of our leaders.
  5. See Delhi, but Mostly See Nature
So many India tours immerse you in crowds of people, rather than quiet wilderness. This trip is very different. While we do include a half-day tour of India’s vibrant capital, which holds a wide range of culture-focused photo opportunities, you are quickly whisked away to a secluded immersion in nature where wildlife is front and center.
  6. Exceptional Value for Your Travel Dollar
While we are coming at the optimal time to see tigers, this is otherwise an off-peak trip, meaning your cost is lower than for most India tours. Take advantage of great value pricing for an exceptionally high-quality small-group photo expedition—when tiger sightings are best!
  7. Our Presence Directly Helps to Protect Tigers
After years of precipitously declining tiger numbers, India charted a 30 percent rise in its 2014 tiger census, compared to four years before. Conservation groups attribute a share of that increase to responsible nature tourism, of which we are a part. The sheer economic value of visitors to India's tiger reserves helps protect them, as it benefits the adjacent communities, providing jobs and offering local people an incentive to protect the wild creatures they share the land with. Given that India is home to 70 percent of the world's remaining wild tigers, and India is the only country currently seeing a rise in tiger numbers, the presence of wildlife tourism here is integral to that continued success.
