Nat Hab's Alaska Bear Camp
Location
Private Inholding Inside Lake Clark National Park, Alaska

Nat Hab's private Alaska Bear Camp on Cook Inlet is a sustainable base for exploring Alaska's most pristine brown bear habitat, providing wilderness accommodations that are low on impact yet high on comfort. Built on a historic homestead on the ancestral land of the Dena'ina people, the remote parcel on roadless land was grandfathered in to remain private when Lake Clark National Park was established in 1980. It's the only such property within the park with this exclusive status. Surrounded entirely by the park today, Bear Camp offers a premier location for immersive encounters with brown bears—the world's largest "coastal grizzlies"—exclusively for Nat Hab guests.

Our deluxe backcountry camp is designed for an unobtrusive presence among the bears, with tent cabins erected on a raised deck in front of the forest, facing the Chinitna Bay shoreline. These custom heavy-duty WeatherPort tents offer sturdy protection against the elements. Each has a solid door and hard floor and is warmed with a propane space heater and illuminated with battery-powered lights. Solar energy provides a portion of the camp's electricity needs, including the electrified fence that surrounds the camp for protection against bears and other wildlife. Each tent cabin is furnished with two twin beds. Charging stations for cameras and phones are available in the dining tent. The bathhouse has hot showers and state-of-the-art composting toilets, and each tent also has a nighttime porta-potty for essential needs. Biodegradable toiletries in refillable bottles are provided. Meals are served in the communal dining tent, which also serves as a space for socializing, guide presentations and topping up your camera batteries. A small library is available in the shared tent, featuring bear-centric titles. Food is a highlight at Bear Camp (and not just for the bears!), with our resident chef creating impressive dishes that draw extensively on fresh, locally sourced ingredients, including fish and seafood straight out of regional waters.
M/V Natural Habitat Ursus
Location
Katmai National Park, Alaska

Our privately chartered ship, the M/V Natural Habitat Ursus, provides accommodations for up to eight guests on our exclusive grizzly bear adventures on the Alaska Peninsula. Ideally designed for exploring the remote waters of coastal Katmai National Park, the Ursus (Latin nomenclature for "bear") is 73 feet long with a deep displacement hull and an exceptionally seaworthy design with a high bow and fine horseshoe-shaped stern. It carries a full complement of state-of-the-art navigation and safety equipment. Inside, the sturdy vessel is intimate and simply appointed, yet with ample space and facilities for accommodations and activities. The Ursus sleeps eight guests in four double cabins with upper/lower berths. Each cabin has a wash basin. Two bathrooms with toilet and shower are shared between the four cabins; each bathroom is connected to two cabins in a Jack and Jill layout. A large galley and well-lit dining space are the site for convivial conversation over creative home-cooked meals prepared each day by our accomplished onboard chef. Fresh Alaskan seafood, including halibut, salmon and Kodiak scallops, highlights many of the dinners. The ship also has a small library, computer, DVD and CD player on board, with a selection of regional books and documentaries.

Ursus
was originally built in 1984 as a crab fishing boat called the Time Bandit, which plied the stormy waters of the Bering Sea. Its successor, the newer Time Bandit, gained fame in the Discovery Channel TV series "Deadliest Catch." In 1989 the original Time Bandit (now the Ursus) was transitioned for research use by the National Park Service, Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and other agencies conducting scientific study and monitoring. It has since been retrofitted and comfortably appointed for custom marine charter use. In addition to our grizzly adventures, the ship has outfitted two international filmmaking projects, the 2012 BBC/Discovery Channel documentary Great Bear Stakeout, and an NHK (Japanese public television) program on orcas hunting gray whales and humpbacks.

With Ursus providing our accommodations offshore, we are able to visit some of the world's most pristine wilderness in Katmai National Park in exceptional solitude without leaving an impact. The central element of this adventure is our shore excursions to see the bears on foot. We transfer from the Ursus to the beach in an open aluminum skiff carried on board. We frequently make wet landings (just offshore in the intertidal area, where we may walk in water to our knees), but chest waders with waterproof neoprene booties are provided to keep your feet dry. Ocean tides of up to 28 feet, some of the biggest tides in the world, erase most of the human tracks daily.
Land's End Resort
Location
Homer, Alaska

Land's End Resort enjoys a choice location on the beach at the very tip of the famous Homer Spit, the western terminus of the U.S. highway system known locally as "The End of the Road." It's the only hotel on the spit, and it's within walking distance of the lively small boat harbor where fishermen are constantly unloading the day's catch. Rooms feature views of Kachemak Bay with one king-size or two double beds, a full bath, desk with chair, satellite TV, free Wi-Fi, coffee maker and private deck. Specializing in freshly caught local seafood, the casual Chart Room restaurant enjoys one of the finest locations for dining in Alaska, surveying the broad expanse of Kachemak Bay with marine life often in view outside the picture windows or from the large outdoor deck. Wheel House Espresso offers coffee pick-me-ups, and a gift shop is also on site. If time permits, take a sauna, swim in the heated pool, or soak in the outdoor hot tub in view of the Kenai Mountains.
Kodiak Compass Suites
Location
Kodiak, Alaska

Optimally located in the heart of downtown Kodiak, the island’s newest hotel features extra-large all-suite accommodations. Although Kodiak is a far-removed destination that’s not on most Alaska travel itineraries, its remote location doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice comfort or amenities. Spacious contemporary suites have views of either the harbor or mountains. They feature either one king, one queen plus sofa bed, or two extra-long full beds, a sitting area, workspace with desk, and a kitchenette. Roomy bathrooms have walk-in showers. The main lounger offers inviting fireplace seating with a big screen TV. A well-appointed fitness center has a solid selection of equipment and weights if you need to squeeze in a workout. A guest laundry is also on the premises.
