Our Flagship Safari—A Truly Exclusive Adventure into the Heart of Wildest Africa
In the wilds of Botswana, you'll find the wonders that drew adventurers to the African continent over a century ago. Vast elephant herds still roam the acacia-studded savanna. Hippos and crocodiles crowd the Chobe River's marshy channels. Antelope, giraffe, buffalo and zebra thrive in the Okavango Delta wetlands and at watering holes that sustain life on the dry plains. Lions laze beneath mopane trees while leopards sprawl in branches above, icons of genuine wilderness that is vanishing all too quickly. Intimate tented safari camps are reminiscent of a nostalgic era in the African bush, yet replete with modern-day luxuries that ensure your comfort even in some of the planet's most remote wild places. If you're searching for the classic romance of Africa, it's still here in secluded Botswana—and it's ripe to exceed every wildlife photographer's wildest dreams!
You won't find a higher-quality, more in-depth privately guided safari to Africa’s most exclusive nature reserves, designed for maximum wildlife encounters!
Small luxury safari camps in remote private reserves offer unsurpassed comfort, isolation and astounding proximity to wildlife, which is often on view from our tents
Led by Botswana's top guides, capture images of charismatic predators, track rhinos on foot, and photograph the Chobe River's massive elephant herds
There Are Important Differences in Botswana Safaris
Botswana holds some of the last true wilderness in Africa, teeming with wildlife that thrives within a mosaic of healthy ecosystems. An exclusive safari destination like Botswana—a “once in a lifetime” dream trip for most travelers—is one to do right. And we do. We've spent years honing this hallmark trip to ensure that our itinerary and accommodations offer a truly exclusive experience of this famed African wildlife destination. While some companies stay with larger groups in busy national parks or on the fringe of wildlife concentrations, we deliver a remote nature experience focused on close-up wildlife sightings in an intimate context—including exclusive access and expertise for our special photography departures. Here’s how our Secluded Botswana safari stands above the rest:
The Smallest Groups
The best African safari can't happen in crowded conditions. That's why we take a maximum of just seven guests on regular departures—and only eight guests (always divided into two vehicles for safari drives!) on photo departures. These exceptionally small group sizes ensure the most personalized safari experience possible, allowing us to stay at very small camps in places where we can have truly intimate wildlife encounters. You'll experience the utmost in personalized service from our guides, including pro photo expertise on our special photography departures.
An Open "Window" Seat for Everyone
We make sure you have access to unimpeded views. The private safari vehicles we charter have open sides, with no glass to interfere with your view. Though our vehicles have 10 cushioned passenger seats—one in front next to the driver, followed by three rows of three seats each—we limit our capacity to just seven travelers in each vehicle on wildlife drives (and only four travelers per vehicle on photo departures), ensuring clear viewing (no one stuck in a center seat), maximum comfort, easy photography access and plenty of room for your gear.
The Optimal Botswana Safari Itinerary
Our itineraries have been meticulously designed in conjunction with World Wildlife Fund to provide a secluded experience of Botswana's prolific wildlife, where animal numbers are highest and tourist crowds non-existent. We have years of experience running the best safaris in Botswana, and we continually tweak our itineraries to ensure that each year, our guests' experience is second to none.
Stay in Seclusion on Private Reserves
Rather than staying in more heavily visited national parks, we retreat to private reserves located adjacent to the parks, where we enjoy an isolated setting and exclusive activities off-limits to park visitors. Included are night drives in search of nocturnal species as well as short guided walking excursions, allowing a rare chance to explore the African bush on foot. Our secluded accommodations in the Linyanti and Moremi regions are set amidst a profusion of wildlife, offering outstanding close-up photography, as well as the chance to shoot photos at sunset when the light is best—when other groups must be back at camp by sunset due to national park regulations.
Intimate Accommodations Facilitate Close-Up Wildlife Encounters
Wherever possible, we choose very small luxury safari camps that blend into the environment and maximize quiet, up-close encounters with Botswana’s prolific wildlife. Our preferred camps have just four or five tents each, and their discreet presence enhances the opportunity for wildlife to wander through camp. Classic tented safari accommodations provide individual verandas for
guests to enjoy peaceful time and a private view of the African wild, with photography possibilities right out the front door of your tent.
Doors-Off Helicopter Flight for Aerial Photography on Photo Departures
Anyone who's had an aerial view on an African safari will tell you there's nothing like photographing wildlife on the move from on high. So we've included an exciting helicopter flight on our Secluded Botswana photo itineraries. You'll soar over the Gomoti River and vast Okavango Delta—one of the richest wildlife enclaves in all of Africa. The Gomoti River is a year-round lifeline for animals, and the mosaic of habitats you'll survey from the sky provides ample food for a large array of grazing species and the predators that pursue them. And with the doors off, there's nothing to impede your aerial view!
Air Transfers Maximize Your Time on Safari
Light aricraft flights between safari locations, rather than long, dusty drives over rough dirt roads, allow us to spend more time actually participating in safari activities, instead of enduring uncomfortable conditions in transit.
The World's Finest Naturalist Guides Our guests enjoy the personalized service of some of the most experienced naturalist guides in all of Africa—a Nat Hab hallmark. Your NHA Safari Expedition Leader will accompany your group from start to finish, ensuring a seamless and superior safari experience. Rather than using less-qualified local camp guides at each location, you benefit from our Expedition Leaders' expertise—they are the most highly trained guides in Africa, averaging 15 years' experience, with additional resources provided by WWF’s top scientists. Our philosophy on this is simple: an African safari is only as good as the guide, so we must provide the very best!
