Lindblad Expeditions' Commitment to Hygiene & Health
Early in 2020, Lindblad Expeditions became the first self-disinfecting fleet in the cruise industry. All Lindblad ships have been treated with the ACT CleanCoat™ system. When illuminated, this photocatalytic coating breaks down unwanted microbes such as bacteria, viruses, mold and airborne allergens. It can be applied to all surfaces, which become self-disinfecting after application. This has been planned for well over a year with the view of drastically reducing the transmission of germs, which it did with great success during the testing phase.
This functional surface coating is combined with the ACT ECA System™ which purifies the onboard air. When used in tandem, these two technologies result in a non-toxic, chemical-free solution known as Premium Purity™. After a full year of testing on the National Geographic Explorer, Lindblad Expeditions has seen results impressive enough to roll it out to their entire fleet.
This self-disinfecting technology:
- Reduces guest-reported illness by 50 percent
- Eliminates exposure to toxins for cleaning staff, and potential allergens for guests
- Reduces water usage by approximately 1.1 million gallons per year (fleet-wide)
- Removes 1,000 single-use plastic bottles from the cleaning process annually (fleet-wide)
