Serra Cafema Camp, located in the Kunene region of Namibia, is one of the most remote camps in all of southern Africa. It takes its Portuguese name from the mountainous skyline to the north. The camp is shaded by ancient albida trees along the banks of the Kunene River, the only permanent source of water in this area. Guests are greeted by the refreshing sounds of the rapids below camp, a welcome presence after adventurous days spent exploring one of the world’s most arid environments. The Himba people, some of the last true nomads in Africa, inhabit this region of Namibia.
This luxury camp’s eight canvas and thatched chalets blend harmoniously with the desert surroundings, and guests can enjoy the view from the spacious private deck of each chalet. All rooms are appointed with luxury amenities and have en suite bathrooms. Common areas include the main lounge, indoor and outdoor dining areas, a sunken lounge, riverfront bar, library, curio shop and swimming pool overlooking the river flowing in front of camp.
Activities include nature drives, boating on the Kunene River, mountain and river valley walks, and ecologically sensitive quad bike excursions on the sand dunes. All are designed to allow guests to explore this breathtaking landscape with as minimal an impact as possible. Additionally, guests may opt to visit the nearby Himba nomad settlement, should the people be in the area.
