M/V Sea Star
Whittier/Prince William Sound, Alaska
There's absolutely no comparison between seeing Alaska's wild shorelines from a huge cruise ship versus a private chartered yacht with vintage atmosphere and accommodations for just seven guests! An intimate exploration of the marine wilderness of Prince William Sound is what's on offer aboard the classic M/V Sea Star. Built in 1965 as a luxury cruising vessel, the 78-foot yacht Sea Star embodies the epitome of comfort and style. A delightful blend of past and the present, the vessel has been meticulously maintained in mint condition and outfitted for warmth and relaxation. With plenty of inviting and cozy locations to stretch out both inside and on deck, guests have ample room to experience the glories of Alaska at a peaceful pace. Our flexible itinerary allows us to explore as wildlife and conditions entice us, with Sea Star safely navigating the channels, coves and fjords that comprise Prince William Sound's 3,800-mile coastline. Equipped with stabilizers and state-of-the-art navigational equipment, Sea Star provides a comfortable and reliable floating home for its guests. Sea Star also carries two RIB (rigid inflatable boat) tenders to allow even closer encounters with the scenery and marine life of the sound.
Accommodations are in four well-designed compact cabins, with drawers for storage, en suite bathrooms including toilet, vanity and shower, and screened porthole windows that open to bring in the fresh sea breeze. Pull up a chair or take a seat on the sofa in the Main Salon, lined with large viewing windows so you won't miss any of the passing scenery or frequent wildlife appearances as you read a book or partake in a game of chess. Head up to the pilothouse to visit with the captain, or take a spot at the rail on the spacious open bow, complete with a spectacular 240-degree view that you can also enjoy from a fully cushioned settee situated just in front of the pilothouse. And should the weather turn a misty, remain comfortable outdoors via the covered wrap-around companionways and after deck area. The onboard chef prepares fabulous gourmet meals, sourced with freshly caught seafood and Alaskan agricultural bounty, and served in the well appointed Dining Salon with wrap-around windows and an elegant teak table and chairs. The dining space also includes a large cushioned settee, wet bar with sink, refrigerator for cold beverages throughout the day, and a water/coffee/tea station.
